• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What to do if you DO NOT want a 2014 RT.

We rhode our 2013 in for a new tire and rhode home with the 2014 RT Limited. Was not planned at all. We test drove while we were waiting on our tire to be put on and ended up telling the keep it, we want this one lol!!!

Could not be happier. All I can say is wow!!!

Thats what happens! :2thumbs:

The first dealer I went to told me they basically don't GIVE test rides.
Hence I left and went to another dealer who gave me a test ride on the spot.
And I bought.

The test drive kind of says it all if you are interested in the differences between engines, tranny, power, and ride.

I am noticing a trend of people now buying these two at a time :yikes:
Am guessing that BRP is very happy with the trend
.

I think I'm running with the wrong crowd. I'm much lower on the income scale than most on this site I guess. Folks are buying two and I am trying to figure out how to trade up to a '14 or '15 from the 2010 I have. My '10 is great and my wife and I really love it for touring. I really believe the '14 RT redesign is spot on and has taken away any reliability and heat problems from previous models. Although I have never had any major problems with mine, the fact remains, in the back of my mind everytime we take a trip, "will this be the time Limp mode hits on the interstates (yes, it hit me once riding solo at 70 mph and it scared me to death) and gets my wife and I run over by a big rig, or will the throttle body give out hundred's of miles from home and we will have to be towed"? I have always been a Spyder nut and supported the Spyder 110%, But the things I've mentioned are always in the back of my mind. Maybe I worry too much, I may be just parrinoid. These things don't bother me much when I am on trips solo but when my sweety is with me it is a different story.
Anyway I may NEVER have any issues with the 2010, 23,500 trouble free miles so far. I love the way it drives and the way it runs but as soon as I win big bucks in the lottery or hit a scratch off for a few thousand just don't be between me and the dealer door.

No, you have the right crowd, we are just broke and in major debt now!! Hehehe

Also felt the same way about my 2010 trade. It had almost 37,000 trouble free miles. Ditto: on the thoughts about limp mode.

I went to my dealer today to test ride a 2014 RTS demo to satisfy my curiosity of what all the praise of the 2014 RT's is all about. I must say I liked the smoothness of the engine and the easy shifting of the SE6 as well. I felt it had real good low end torque. I didn't find the handling to be much different than my 2013 LTD. The sound of the engine was real quiet and it is a sound that is different than the 990 V-twin. You have to kind of get used to the change. I still like the sound of the 990. BRP did a good job on the 2014's and I'm sure they will carry that into future models. There is bound to be more good changes ahead coming from BRP. Back to the demo ride, Does it impress me enough to jump on the 2014 bandwagon? Not for me at this time. I just wouldn't be able to justify the higher price and the fact that I would really take a $$$ hit on my 2013. Maybe in a couple years I may be in a better position to sell or trade, but not now. As I stated in another thread, I'm happy with my 2013 and I really enjoy it. I think I'll save my money and put towards a RT622 trailer instead. Especially now that they have a $1000.00 price discount on those trailers.

Dialed in for sure!

I test drove one, and preferred my 2010. Of course the latter was dialed in and the 2014 not..

I agree, my 2010 is "dialed in and set up perfect for me". It runs great, handles great and to be honest, The '14 I drove a few weeks back seemed to be on the mushy side in the handling department. I know ,,,,,I have added the Ron bar to mine, I added Fox shocks. I am sure the '14 could probally benifit from these adds. I've cut the windshield to fit me, I added graphics to make it "my own" as Lamont says. I really love riding it. I tell ya, when you Learn the V Twin (and without thinking about it) keep it in the power range it is awesome! This past weekend I was on a trip to the mountains of North Carolina and with my sweetie and the trailer I still had the torque to pull the Ashville mountain from Ashville to Tennessee in 5th gear at 70 mph. I know, I know folks, the 1330 has even more impressive numbers with torque and H.P. but the 998 is one good power plant to do what it does. To move a 925 lb bike, a 250 lb trailer along with 50 to 60 lbs of stuff in the trailer and frunk and bags full, that little motor is awesome, Just keep it in the power band. Anyway, my other concerns still stand with limp mode and throttle bodies. Yep, there will be a time I take the plunge and jump on a '15 perhaps. If they bring back Blue:thumbup:

So how's this for cruel?

I took my '13 RTS in today for it's 14,000 mile service. They told me it would take about 6 hrs (including getting a new rear tire). It's a pretty comprehensive service.
I didn't want to rent a trailer, drop it off, and come back and load it up again, take it home, return the rental, etc...

So I asked the dealer if borrowing a loaner Spyder was an option.
He said, "Sure. Take the '14 Cognac RT Limited. It's our demo model."

So I spent 6 hrs tooling around on that today while I waited.

OMG!!! The crack cocaine analogy is accurate! The low RPM's, the torque, the 6th gear... Even under pressure, the engine purrs like a kitten.

I get back and the sales guy just looks at me and smiles.

My wallet says I can't. But I wanna. But no. Yes. No...:gaah:

tuff motor

Please don't miunderstand us...

There's NOTHING wrong with a well-loved 998!! :2thumbs:

Hey, I agree. the 998 is one good motor! It is the electronics that hurt it. I spoke with a factory rep about the limp mode being a danger at highway speeds in traffic and told him the factory should consider the safety of the riders and not worry so much about hurting the bike if something did trigger the limp. I ask about the update that was issued on newer models, i think it applies to the '12's and '13's that buds can download a newer program that will move the limp speed up to close to 70 mph. He said '10 model was different and the program didn't apply. My reply was that they should come up with it before it gets someone killed. This could be the driving factor that pushes me to a newer model.
