What Replacement tires are there for front in 165/55R15?

My Federal Evo 595s on the front of my RT have 28000 miles on them already - handle great and show very little sign of wear - I have ridden in rain and storms that most people would not consider - so I have to take issue with your assessment unless you have really ridden the tire like I have....

Dear Sir : IMHO "Sledmaster" has probably forgotten more about Spyders than you will ever hope to know, and if you have NOT read Post #10 above, I suggest you do. The people who are into "DRIFTING" are picking this tire for a reason, and I don't think it's for TRACTION. Mike :thumbup:

I went to the Bridgestone tire dealer today and he threw me out the door when I insisted there was a Potenza tire size 165/55R15. OK maybe not but they WERE insistent that it does not exist. I'm confused. That would be my preferred tire. After Michelin. Which also does not make that size tire.

Where is your tire dealer? I'd like to ask him.

They have that size listed on UK tire sites, but not on U.S. sites!!!:banghead:

Does anyone know what the specs are for this tire?
It's almost too cheap.
They tell you nothing on the site, just that it's made for the Can Am.
Where is it made? What is the wear rating? What is the composition - nylon belts, steel belts, what?

The ply ratings are

Thread area = 1 polyester; 2 steel; 1 nylon
Sidewall = 1 polyester
Tread wear = 500
Traction = A
Temp = A

To understand ratings better: check out: http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTreadwear.do

#V35003 is the new fronts 165/55 R15 the new front is rated 55H

From the spydercomfort.com web site.

Terrific! Thanks Billy. Sounds good to me and worth trying. Ordered two. I'll find out eventually.

They give this tire a "500" tread wear and it's rated "55 H" - that seems contradictory!!! And I'm not impressed with a one ply sidewall! I think that is going to make for a "squirrely" ride. jmho Mike :thumbup:

Ted, I tried to steer you as best I could to some "known" well-made tires, but if you want to be a TESTER for these, I wish you luck. You should know (if you don't already) that Vee rubber used the KENDA Spyder Tire & its specs as their model/specs when they designed the Arachnid. Mike :thumbup:

If my existing Kenda's wore well like the ones I had on my '11 RT, I'd stay with them for the fronts. The Kenda's on my '11 had 32,000 miles on them at trade-in with lots of tread left. Unfortunately, the current tires are not wearing so well, starting to lap out at 18K, so I wanted to try something new. I'm a sucker for oddball stuff anyway.

Some like the Federal's, some don't, and there's not a lot to choose from in other sizes either.

I was sorely tempted to go with new Kumho HA31 I mentioned above, but again, too many unknowns. I like the tread design on it, for what that may be worth, but was afraid it might be too stiff a tire for my needs. I prefer a softer ride, seldom do twisties, so maybe the V Tire will work for me. It will be a couple of weeks before I get it on. Will then do an initial report on handling.

For what it is worth, I am running a set of Kumho Solus KH16s on my 2013 ST-S right now in the 155/60-R15 size. I just didn't know if I could fit 175s in there. The 155s are 10mm narrower than the OEM tires, but you do not notice it while riding and barely notice it looking at it, you really have to be looking for it. If anything you visually see the different tread. They are rated treadwear 440, traction A, temperature A, load rating 74 T.

So far I am very happy with the immediate difference in how the machine felt and drove, almost like when I bolted in Ron's sway bar and the Fox shocks, nice improvement in feedback with less body roll and they track nicely. They are wearing even so far, at this time I have no complaints or reservations, I will buy them again, but would love to try the 175/55-R15s next time if I knew they would fit. At like $70 each they are a good value, but I would like more of a summer performance tire, but the options in either of these sizes is also quite limited.

As a final note, I do not baby my Spyders, I push them quite hard, typically 200-300-400-500 miles per ride at high speeds, I am not taking it easy on the tires, they are getting worked. In case that helps. I am not gentle on them. My rear tires usually only last 4,000-5,000 miles, and that is using car tires also, Toyo Proxes 4 right now, they are rated treadwear 300, traction AA, temperature A. Seems they are now out of production as well, I bought up the last 6 of them I could find a while back, only have two left. nojoke

In post 27 above I said I had ordered two of the Vee front tires from Cedar Rapids Tire.

http://www.cedarrapidstire.com/

They notified me today that the shipment came in without the front tires and their distributor told them it would be another 30 days. They asked my pleasure - wait or cancel? I canceled and my Paypal account was reinstated within an hour.

I then ordered two of the Federal EVO's - not brave enough to try a 175.

I think you will like the EVO's. I have almost 1000 miles on them, and they seem to grip and handle really well. I have not had the pleasure of riding in rain with them, so time will tell. I also think the tire footprint is a little wider than the Kenda, they seem to "bulge" out slightly from the fenders.

:shocked:

I was out looking to replace the Kenda tires though they have only 3200 miles. I just want something with better performance in those nightmare turns. I went to Bridgestone dealers and they have no performance tires thoush they do have a Drive Guard which I don't know about. Federal dealers said they have NO tire in the 155/55R15 size. I did find one web site that reported they had that size in the Federal tires $69. I don't think you can buy a decent performance tire for that price. I talked to the Michelin dealers, no tire that size. Three strikes out today.

I saw a post of stating that a Kumho in 175/55 was available. I also read a post someone said that a 185/55 would'nt fit the wheel cover. The 175 is 10mm wider. Anybody with real world experience with this size tire?

My goal is better performance in the curvy parts of the road. I have Bajaron Swaybar, and will soon have Elka 1+ shocks. Tires is all that's left of that performance combo.

It is said the RT won't turn over, but I'm not convinced just yet. Or that yellow streak makes too bright a light for some folks...

from matt - 175/55R15 Pro Contis are perfect run at 23 lbs 2014 RT BRon bar Elka shocks

Undisclosed handling issues were the reason the OP was asking about tires. My 2010 RT handled like a pig until I installed the BajaRon anti-sway bar AND cranked up the air suspension AND jacked preload on the front shocks all the way up. It still wallowed in turns so I bought Stage 1 Elka shocks and they actually didn't do much until I bought the correct springs as suggested by John at Elka.

First time we went through some serious twisties at speed with the stock suspension, my wife was terrified and after all the mods, she now is totally confident. This was done with the stock tires. The tires have some effect on handling I am sure but the limiting factor is the cheesy stock front shocks/springs. If the OP changes front tires, I suspect his Spyder will still have the uinsetteling wallow in turns.
