• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What lighting improvements are essential?

As said: lights are a personal thing. That said: I have added the Custom Dynamics trunk light and some A-frame led's to my 2014. Mine already came with the driving lights--so no need there.

these machines come with all the essencials..here enters the farkeling and lights of choice....good luck..!! :2thumbs:

Essential Lighting

Already ordered the trunk light...

I got the trunk light and "Bright Sides", HID headlights and Fog Lights - use them all, day or night - I think anything else on a 2012 LTD Limited is overkill for safety unless you're thinking decorative.

Also I added the sequential turn signals behind the mirrors - hardest to do but I think most important.

I am going to take a contrary view here. There are a couple of lights you do need just for safety. First is the mirror turn signal lights from Tricled or something similar. 2nd a high mount running/brake light like Custom Dynamics or Tricled 3rd/4th brake light or both. The rest are to taste but more the better.
I ordered the high brake light. Thanks for the suggestion on mirror turn signals. I never can see the indicators on the dash in the daytime!

Spyder Lights and Installation

Truthfully; I DID add TricLEDs' 3rd and 4th brakelights, and added their lights to my front fenders also...

Howdy Bob,
I am curious about the installation of these LED options and would like your opinion. I'm don't want to install something that will weather-off in a few years or adheres by double-stick tape that degrades. I want it to look professional. What is your take on the quality of these lighting options and how was your installation?

Thanks,
Volvernon (Richard)

All automotive emblems have been applied with automotive quality double stick tape for many years now, and I have yet to have one fall off. To the contrary, they are much more difficult to get off than the old metal ones that used pins through holes in the bodywork. SPECIFY 3M automotive tape and you won't go wrong!

I have to agree. There are NO additional lights that are necessary on the Spyder RT.

Having said that, as a matter of taste, I have added the illuminated reflectors to both amber and red on the front fender. The fender was done by Spyder Lyter at SpyderQuest. I've also added the rear side red reflectors and high mount brake Light, both from Custom Dynamics.
I also installed the red arrow mirror turnsignals, not so much for safety, but I can never see the green arrows on the dash to tell me if the signal lights are flashing or not.
Here is a picture:

I am planning on replacing the headlights with HID's sometime next week. That should be the end of my lighting additions.

Hi ThreeWheels,
was a fender replacement required as part of the illuminated reflectors, or was that more of removing reflector and installing the light? By the way, I could not find any references to Spyder Lyter, so I assume you are referring to a person rather than a business.

For your mirror turn signals, had you considered the small LED bar sold by TricLED before buying the arrows? I was just curious if the arrows were more of a technical choice rather than one of aesthetics.

Thanks for your input,
Volvernon (Richard)

Spyder Lyter was one of the vendors at Spyder Quest. His email is [email protected]
He did the installation for me right on the spot. On my 2014, the reflectors are in a separate piece that mounts on top of the fenders. The wheels need to be removed in order to gain access to this part. The top piece is removed, the reflectors are replaced with lighted ones and then wired into the existing light on the front of the fender, at which point everything is reassembled. These are running lights only. I think Custom Dynamics offers a kit that allows the reflector lights to blink along with the turn signals.
Spyder Lyter offered the option for the small LED bar on the mirror at the same time, but I chose the arrows, simply for my own aesthetics. In retrospect, I think I should have gone with amber arrows on the mirrors to match the rear turn signals instead of red, but it's of little consequence.
I didn't mention, Custom dynamics also offers an option to make the rear red reflectors as turn signals. Mine are running lights only, however I did choose to wire up the High Mount Brake Light as a running light AND a brake light.
