• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What Left Grip Control Lights Should Be On?

When riding at night, I noticed that some of the controls by the left grip were not lit up. The DESS section lights up fine. The turn signal button, and hi-lo beam button, the horn button, and the reverse button have no lights on at all. Is this normal? Is there a burned out bulb in there? If there is a bad bulb, should I attempt to take the unit apart and replace it? Is there a cover I can pop off, or do I have to disassemble the whole unit?

There are no lights on the left grip. In time, you'll know where everything is.

The Command Center Controls are the only thing that lights up on the left handlebar buttons. Not sure why you referred to them as DESS section. Nothing to do with the DESS. Nothing user serviceable inside the left housing unless you have expert electronics skills. If something goes wrong, the only fix is to replace with new one. About $400 plus labour.

Oops...I Meant Command Center, NOT DESS

Calling it the DESS was simply a "senior moment" on my part. LOL I meant the Command Center, which lights up fine. Good to know I won't have to open the cover on that control box. I do not need a $400 service/replacement bill!

I DO Have Lights on the Command Center

If you have NO lights by the left grip, then you do indeed have a blown bulb, Copperman ;):D

From what I've read, as long as the Command Center lights are lit, I'm okay, and those are lit. The other controls I mentioned don't light up, so I'm getting the lights I supposed to get. :-)

;) The key, is to :lecturef_smilie: NEVER remove your hand from the grip...
 You'll never find all of the buttons again! :yikes:

Interesting. ...

I have honestly never noticed if I have any lights there. Will have to make a special nocturnal ryde to see what I have, if any. I have an RS so minimal controls and having been on bikes of one sort or another all my life know instinctively where things are. The only ones I care about day or nite are the Horn, Hi/Lo beam, kill switch, turn signal. Starter and hazard are start up and stopped use mostly. I know there are those models with massive controls but to focus on them at nite while driving is a bit dangerous......oops to your question..if they are out maybe the only way to fix them is a new command..:dontknow:

Now you must ask yourself, if the fellow that opened the post and Bob, who sent the picture both have the same problem, should you check yours?:roflblack:

Maybe they both have the same blown bulb or circuits, maybe......:gaah:

 There's something wrong with mine too??? :yikes:

That's why when I ride at night: I don't touch nuthin'!

:roflblack::joke:

I Sue HOPE Not!

You could be right...but I sure hope not! LOL The sad part is that the 187 page Manual says nothing about this topic! They talk about headlights, brake lights, etc., but NOT the lights on the Command Center cluster. I'll just learn where everything is by touch...

It was soooooo frustrating riding home 2+ hours in the dark on mostly freeways when I picked my F3 up, Solidgranite. Changing lanes often meant I sounded the horn:yikes:, and when one of those pesky trucks started wandering into my lane, I frightened the crap out of them by turning my indicators on :dontknow:...... doesn't take too long to get used to them though.

Orange with red stripe wires carry switched 12 volt power all over the Spyder. From what I find in the wiring diagram for the RT there is one OG/RD wire going into the left hand switch cluster. It is connected to a differently colored wire that goes from the cluster to the radio. The best I can surmise looking at the wiring diagram is this is a supply voltage that is controlled by the cluster. What voltage it is I have no idea, but I'm going to say it is power for the the Can Bus processor that is in the left hand switch and is also power for the lights in the cluster. I don't think there is any bulb in the switch, just LEDs of some variety at each of the locations, or a single LED with its light distributed by fiber optic strands.

Whatever lights you see, are all the lights you will ever get and see in the switch.

FYI, the only switch functions in the left hand switch that are not inputs into the Can Bus processor is the headlight switch and the horn button. The headlight switch completes the ground circuit for the main headlight relay, which in NA models activates the relay that activates the shutters for high beam. The horn button completes the ground circuit for the horn.
