What is this thing?? Found on the trailer floor after trailering new S2S home...

I just trailered my brand new '23 Spyder RT Sea-To-Sky home and got enough of the garage cleared out to give it a home. As I backed it out of the trailer, I found this on the floor of the trailer. I don't know what it is, covers, affixes to, or what. Now I'm paranoid it is the one part that keeps the entire thing assembled... <sigh>

Rear Axle cover, one on each side of rear axle. Just push it back on.

PHEW! OK - thank you for the information/help. I've ridden for 20 years, but this is my first Spyder. Of course, I'm usually nervous about parts I don't understand. "If you don't know what it does, leave it alone."

Rear Axle cover, one on each side of rear axle. Just push it back on.

^ Only if you've got both of them off, you will need to check that you match the slots on the smaller raised bit in the centre of the cover so that it'll go over the split pin/any impediment etc on inside of the (hollow) axle when you go to put them back on - they will only go on one side correctly.

However, there's also a similar cover on the inside (body side) of each stub axle for the front wheels too; so if you find that both your rear axle covers are already in place, check up front to see what's missing up there.

All that said, & especially for anyone else who looks for them on their bike, only to find they don't have one/any of those covers - these things are really only decorative, so don't be too stressed if your Spyder doesn't have one or even any at all! You can buy replacements if you really feel the need/want to keep your Spyder absolutely correctly trimmed; but there are Spyders out there that haven't had those things on them since new and which have now done over 250,000 km with absolutely no issues resulting from the lack of those covers. So don't sweat a missing cover or even all the covers too much, your Spyder will survive, and few will ever know or notice there was ever meant to be anything there.

The exact same thing happened to me, except it was when I was trailering the Spyder while on vacation.

I wrapped a couple of turns black tape around the inside of the shaft thingy before pressing it back into place.

I just stop using them all together!
