• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What is the rear seat switch for?

I want to fabricate a cargo rack for long fishing trips. Will I need to incorporate a switch if I have about a 75 pound load?

What model are you talking about? On the RT it's to activate the ACS suspension system to stiffen the suspension when riding two up.

Sorry, it's a 2014 STL. I thought that's what it was for, but do you think a rear load of say 70 pounds old require that?

Pillion switch

The pilloin switch adjusts the VSS parameters for a passenger. It has nothing to do with the air suspension. All Spyders have it regardless of the model and year even if it does not have air suspension.

. OK, so do you think I need it if I'm putting 70 pounds of cargo there.

seat switch

i am guessing you are placing a aftermarket half seat in place to add your rack?
i would add the seat switch from the bottom of the factory seat to the rack so it sees the weight

if not and you are placing the rack above the seat top i wouldn't worry about it to much 75 pounds don't make a lot of difference to the RS

i carried a large bag on my sport rack made a bracket that went across the hand grabs out of PVC so i could still fill up without unstrapping the bag each time
if you want to see a pic of the bracket i made i can snap a pic of it easy to make

You don't need the switch installed to sense the weight. 70 lbs should not be an issue. But it cannot be disconnected from the harness. If you do it will give a VSS error.

Depends..!

if you can then why not. Otherwise you'll have to stuff it somewhere else. As billybovine stated it has to be connected to the system...

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding of the switch is to sense a passenger and allow the computer to proportion the braking forces differently with the added weight over the rear tire giving more grip to the tire than when riding solo.:hun:

Clear as mud; right??

I guess we may be talking about two different switches. The RTL has the ACS switch installed as part of the ACS Package. A base RT would not have but could be added as an option according to the manual. The Pillion Rider Switch, according to the service manual is a component of the VCM over which the rider has no control. The extra weight on the pillion switch changes the control parameters mainly to reduce maximum allowed lateral acceleration and yaw. Whether or not a 75 lb. load would activate the PRS I have no idea. OTOH, depending on the weight of the rider, the extra 75 lb might or might not prompt the rider to change the ACS setting for a better ride.
