What is it worth?

I seek your opinions on if my 2008 Spyder GS has any extra value over and above what a normal 2008 GS would be worth.....

I have serial number 6 of the very first original run of 2008 Spyder GS models. Jay Leno got #001, I got #006. Have had it here since 2007.

To the best of my knowledge this was the very first one, or the lowest serial number, sold outside of the factory. Seems BRP engineers and the like got the lower numbers 2-3-4-5.

It now has over 34,000 miles on it and is in outstanding condition, with a comfort seat, six spoke wheels and trunk liner. Other than that it is bone-stock and original, has not been bastardized, other than OEM bar risers and a Toyo rear tire. Runs strong, tracks straight, no issues.

It now just sits in my shop, only been out twice this year. I put all of my miles and time on my 2013 ST-S and 2015 F3-S, both of which are a far better fit for my tall height.

I was going to now sell number six instead of letting it just depreciate away. The question is this - do you believe this exact unit has any extra value being such a low serial number, and likely the very first Spyder sold outside of the factory? Do you see any "collector" value to this unit? Or should I just sell it as a 2008 GS with 34,000 miles in good condition and expect to price it as such?

I am thinking probably not any extra value. A previous owner and I had some fun go-arounds over the Premier edition stuff. He had a 2008 premier and I had a 2010 Premier RT (#474). No extra anything for either one of us. I believe it was addressed in a site (maybe KBB) that they could have an extra $500 or so.

I offered my 2010 Premier #474 several times for $40,000 and had absolutely no takers. :yikes:

Jay Leno's #1 would probably carry a premium value. Good deal for him since he probably got it for free. Premium value because of who he is and it is actually supposed to be the #1.

2008's have not become collectors items even though they are the first of their kind. Currently, most are selling for around $7,500 and slightly higher. If yours had pristine miles (under 500 or so) that might have some factor as far as additional value.

This site is not good for selling a "collector" Spyder. Most astute buyers want to get a real deal--not pay a premium price. A check with either an auto auction site (Barrett Jackson) or a motorcycle auction site (?) might be worth looking into.

BRP also messed up the Premier Edition thing by exceeding the original (1500) by another couple thousand or so. We also made some fun of that early on. "I have Premier Edition #8587 out of 1500."

Hope you can see some additional value--but am not going to bet the farm on it. :thumbup:

Being a Premier Edition by itself is not the attraction. Being a single digit of the very first run is, being the first one sold outside of the factory is. There are thousands of Premier Editions from many models, but there are only 9 (or so) single digit units from the very first run. That is where the exclusive nature lies. That said, I was curious to see if any of you perceived this one as being worth anything over and above any other 2008 GS Premier Edition.

As for Jay Leno and #001, the last time I was in Valcourt I asked about the 2008s and was told that there were three different serial number 001s built - one for Jay Leno, one for the head of the BRP Design Studio Denys LaPointe, and one for BRP's President and CEO Jose Boisjoli. Denys was the one that told me this as I was looking at his #001 (photos attached).

It is the SM, they were built first. Here is a photo of the very first ones coming down the production line. The one in front is #004, with #005 right behind it, my #006 is behind the people standing there on the right.

I am hoping that you find different than what I have suggested. Auction houses or collector places are still probably your best bet.

Give the guys at Pawn Stars in LV a call. They might have some information that would be helpful.

A low number sometimes does not mean much to someone. EG. Our team came in second in the Super Bowl.

A test ad on SL for sale section sure cannot hurt either.

I was just going to sell it as a 2008 with 34,000 miles in very good condition, but didn't want to be stupid about it and leave money on the table if some of you thought it would be worth more. I really didn't think it would be. It was not / is not my intention to sell it here on the forum, as it will likely bring more locally than it would with this savvy crowd. But then again, one never knows, somebody might want this piece of Spyder history worse than I do!

Back in 2002 I had one of the very first Ski-Doo REV snowmobiles, #004, that one sold for nothing extra, and it was a pre-production unit. Sure it was a cool sled, but one doesn't have enough storage space to keep everything!

I bought a 2008 GS SE-5 w/4k miles on it in Mar '14 for $9600. I did not know then about any PE version and know little now. Does it have something different other than a logo that says Premier Edition? If not, for me it has no additional value.
