What if seat doesn't release to open and fuel?

Have you thought about what would happen if your switch would not open the seat release and you needed gas? I asked the dealer about this. He said to just pull up hard and something will let go and we will fix it when you get back. Figured there had to be a better way. So, I took a length of fishing line(strong and thin) and created a loop to put it around the mechanism that has to move back to let it open. You can see this by working your key to open and watch the cable connection. On the other end, I tied a small key ring that I can pull on. I put the ring up in the glove box. you can barely see the fishing line but if ever would not open you simply open the glove box, move the line down run along the inside of the seat and pull the ring. Now you are open and can get fuel without ripping your seat up. Not sure why they even have it lock. Thinking of just taking out the connection and letting the seat sit without locking in. Don't see an advantage to the lock which if they want to steal your gas they will just rip open the seat. Just some food for thought.

Here's my version made with wire. After I took this pic I bent the wire tighter around the latch arm. I can pull the end of the seat out just far enough to reach and grab the loop.

Just facilitates someone siphoning the gas out of your tank, or stealing your tool kit, but other than that, not much. Under the seat is a convenient place to carry the adjusting wrench for the Tri Axis handlebar while you're tweaking its position.

.These would be my last TWO worries :roflblack:........I was an LEO for 37 years and never heard of GAS being stolen from a Motorcycle.....and as far as the tools go....How many posts have we seen about people claiming they bought a Spyder for $ 30,000 and didn't get any tools .....Because they couldn't find them and they owned the Bike ....Mike :thumbup:

they could take my whiz-bang toolkit. I think the straps that held it in place are more valuable
as helmet strap extenders enabling the use of the virtually nonfunctional helmet hooks.

As someone previously stated in some seat install chats, the seat doesn't really need to latch, just use the
pin to "locate".

PS) They could get a grand total of about $15 worth of gas, if it was completely full. Not really worth taking the risk for that little $$$$$$ IMO.

I tried just disabling lock, but my gas shock is too strong and the seat will come up if you aren't sitting on it. The fishing line/wire is the trick I think, cutting the seat so that iut folds back is even better and BlueKnight's "door" is clever too.

If you are one of the few folks that use the helmet hooks under the seat :shocked:; not being able to latch it down, could be an issue for you...

my release cable broke a long time ago so I filed a taper on the other side of the pin that goes into the latch assembly,The latch still holds but just have to give a pull up and it unlatches
