• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What happens?

Just curious as to if anyone has had their Spyder let them down while out of town on a trip. I would hate to be 1000 miles from home and have her break on me but it's always a possibility. If it's happened, how is this usually handled with a Spyder under warranty? Are you put first in line? I would hate to be stuck out of town for a week waiting on repair while missing work. Just thinking!!!!

i have 68k on my 09 RS and haven't had an issue anytime on a long trip and my riding partners are in the same boat.

YUP

YUP, happened to me last summer..... exactly 1000 miles for home....
on our way to NOVA SCOTIA from my home in the upstate of South Carolina, my partner and i rode up to Cape Cod Massachusetts, to meet up with 2 other riders... BOOM..... my battery wouldn't charge... went round-n-round; new battery, new alternator.... NOTHING.... headed back home... a BIG THANKS to my partner for having one of those mini-jumpers with him... had to jump-start at every stop.... my dealer found the issue: bad grounding strap....
if you're afraid things like this will happen, you have 2 choice: 1. GO, and stop your worrying, or 2. Stay home....
i'd rather break-down on the road versus staying home... heck, it was an experience, and i laugh at it now.... oh ya, i cussed a blue streak while it was happening, but it's all water under the bridge now....
GO, AND ENJOY YOURSELF....

Why worry

I jump in my car or truck both 10 and 11 years old - and go anywhere I want without thinking about what if I breakdown.

I just got my Spyder last year and plan to do the same with it - hop on and go where I want without thinking about a breakdown.

What if is negative thinking ... think positive and ryde.

I am not "worried" about it, I was just curious as to how it plays out. I was just curious if people had it happen and how they deal with it. Leave the bike, drive home and go back and get it after it's fixed? Hang out until it's fixed? Does he warranty cover trip lodging in the event of a break down? I know my Harley did. Just a generic question; it's not gonna stop me from enjoying it for sure.

It happened to me with my 2014 RTS. A valve spring decided to break on the Cimmeron Turnpike in Oklahoma, while on my way home from the Bayou event in 2016. This was after that machine got me from Kansas to Alaska and back without any problems.

Got ahold of a dealer about 30 miles from my break-down and they put it on the schedule. I rented a car and drove home. When they couldn't figure out what was wrong, I went back, rented a truck and hauled it to Pitbull's in Springfield, about 300 miles from home. happily it was still under warrenty. I rented another car to go to Spyderfest last year and pick up my new 2016 F3T.

:dontknow: It completely depends on how the situation presents itself... :dontknow:
Just play the hand that you're dealt, and roll with the punches!

So my solution for your concern is to make sure I have the best roadside available. Yep close to 140k....had 2 breakdowns. First one Spyder issue. Second one I hit the rock, it did NOT jump out and get me (altho that is a better story). Roadside came to the rescue in both cases. So make sure you realllly know what your roadside covers...and yep I travel lots of miles...most of them solo....heading out on 8000 mile adventure in a few days. Roadside renewed and ready if needed.

Gotta say...

Never start a trip with a negative attitude. :lecturef_smilie:you will find a problem that was not there..:banghead: only have around 40,000 miles but never an issue. There are good dealers along the way..

It's all in the dealer's hands.......

There are some horror stories on this site regarding folks being stranded a thousand miles from home when their spyder went kaput. There are also some very heart warming stories as well. A couple on tour far from home broke down and were towed to the dealership where I bought my spyder. Long story short, the dealer didn't have a replacement part in stock and BRP had it backordered. The business owner instructed the shop manager to remove the needed part off a showroom bike and install it on the stranded folks bike and get them back on the road ASAP. No charge, warrantee covered the cost. Redding Yamaha, Redding California. Two thumbs up!

My first Spyder broke down when we were headed to an event. The Spyder dealer that I contacted came to rescue us with a truck and trailer, they took a part off a Spyder on the showroom floor and stayed a couple of hours after their closing time to get us on the road. That Spyder broke down while we were attending Spyderfest and I would have had to leave it as the needed part was not available so instead I bought a new Spyder. That Spyder story is for another time but my current Spyder a 2014 RTS SM6 has over 100,000 miles on it and has never left me stranded.
