• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What from the 24+ F3 updates could be retrofit to previous years?

Has anyone attempted to determine if any of the updates to the 24+ F3 could be fit to the previous year F3?

Specifically the updated display, control groups and headlights. I have briefly poked around canampartshouse looking for the main bits, but I don't know that the diagrams there can get me the full story. I am aware that software updates would also be a part of the solution.

Could this all be accomplished with the right part numbers and a BUDS license?

My first guess is that you'd also have to replace the computer modules that control the upgraded components.

Probably cheaper to sell the 2023 F3 and buy a newer one.

I would agree that the modules would need reprogrammed/flashed but I would be suspect that they would be different. That costs them money.

There's traditionally/historically been VERY LITTLE on Spyders that can successfully retro-fitted onto earlier models - especially when it comes to things like the displays, the controls, and the computer modules... They're seemingly designed differently from year to year just to preclude that sorta thing! :cautious:

The only thing I think that is close to the request being asked would be being able to install a F3S cruise control to a base F3. But even then that would be limited on the model years you can do that with.

I'll take it from the responses that the answer is that no one has attempted this.

While I understand that historically very little to nothing is approved backwards compatible by Can-Am, I suspect there is crossover and Can-Am just isn't interested in making that information available.

As an example, I have been looking to get a top box kit for my wife's F3T, and they have been discontinued for years. Can-Am support has no interest in helping with that, pointing to the local dealer's parts department. The local parts department isn't interested in helping with that because they don't want to be responsible for something not working. The Can-Am tech at the local dealer also has no interest in helping with that since he has more work than he can do already and only works part time. So left to my own devices, I started digging around in the parts catalogue.

I discovered that the new F3L's use the same top box part number as the RTs, which is why they discontinued the top box kit for the older F3T's. Combing through the parts catalogue, it looks like through 8 different part numbers (half of which are $3 screws) and around $160, you could get all the parts required to make a 2019 F3T LinQ top case compatible. There is still the hurdle of wiring, as the LinQ box uses a different connector than the older top cases did, but that is solvable as well. I would have already put this experiment to the test if Can-Am didn't want $2500 for the top case. If I see a used one pop up on eBay, I may give it a go.

I suspect there are more like this, hidden through obscurity, to drive new unit sales.

In response to the first sentence of your post above, you may be right with the specific year/model you are asking after in the original post to this thread, and there may even be a slight chance that some things will work for your specific year/model question; but if you do a bit of searching and reading thru the older threads here, you'll find that there are people who HAVE tried to retro-fit newer dash & control modules (amongst other things  ) on earlier models, at some significant expense, and usually, to no (or little truly successful) avail... 😖

But you did ask and people answered, sharing their hard earned knowledge and experience with you - but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't still try if you really want to - after all, it's your bike, your time, and your $$! ;)
