• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

While browsing the web, I ran across a produce called "Ride-On Flat Tire Sealer and Balancer". www.ride-on.com

Has anyone had any experience with this product?

Or does everyone just plug or get towed?

I am just curious and thinking ahead.
 
Personally, I carry a plug kit. If that didn't work I would get a tow. From what I hear, and I'm no expert, either the tire sealer usually ruins the inside or most places don't want to mess with the goop. Tires for the Ryker are fairly cheap, better to buy a new tire than mess with goop. Again, no expert, just my opinion.
 
I have a can with goop with me for emergencies, to temporarily fix and inflate the tire :)
But I've heard the same as Jomarfl. The tire shop will not be too amused having to clean up the goop! Then on the other hand, getting a tow truck is quite expensive, so even if the tire shop charges you extra due to the goop it may be cheaper. Just something to consider :)

Plug kit and CAA member. (like AAA)

I’ll try a plug if it’s a hole in the tread area. If that won’t do it I’ll call for recovery.
 
If I can't plug it using multiple plugs then goop ain't gonna seal it off either.
 
Tire Repair

:coffee: No Goop for me. Most tire shops will not repair the 'Goop' tire. Like others have said, plug it or call the recovery people.........:thumbup:
 
I've been using Ride-On sealant in my motorcycle tires for years. Knock on wood .. haven't had any flats to test it, but magazine reviews praise it. Works great as a tire balancer and doesn't leave a mess come tire replacement time. However, I do carry a plug kit/mini compressor when I travel on long, out of state trips.
 
I use Ride-On. It works very well for me. I use the car tire version (though Ride-On originally recommended the Car Tire version for the Spyder, they switched, for some unknown reason, and now recommend the Motorcycle Tire version. But since the Spyder & Ryker use car tires, it doesn't make sense to me.). I've used both versions in the Spyder and Ryker and I prefer the car tire version better.

Ride-On stays on the inside of the tread area. It really isn't messy like Slime or similar sealers. Some have complained that it didn't seal well. But if you get a hole anywhere other than the tread area, it won't seal. And you usually can't fix a sidewall leak with any reliable patch anyway.

Ride-On also helps to dynamically balance the tire/wheel. Overall, I have been very pleased with Ride-On. The only drawback that I've found is that if you let it sit for a few weeks, it will take a few miles of riding to redistribute it inside the tire. You'll get some out of balance for those first few miles.
 
What BajaRon in post #8, I've used RideOn for years and it worked for me. The new formulation is light years ahead of the old formula, no rim damage, no environmental damage, washes away with water.
You can go to their website and read for yourself the declarations and claims. I'm sure there are some YouTube demo's out there too.
 
I also carry a tire plug kit (different plug diameters) & portable compressor. The three different times I've had to plug a tire on the road, its never let me down.
 
Plug kits are fine. But I had a plug come out of my rear tire on my Suzuki M109R on the freeway (75 mph). It was all I could do to get over onto the right shoulder from the left lane. That tire flopped from the right side of the rim to the left side. To stay upright I had to steer to match or go down. Fortunately, there wasn't much traffic and I did not go into the left side guardrail. With Ride-On, I would have avoided all of that. There are pluses and minuses to any choice.

Granted, a flat on a Spyder isn't nearly as dangerous as one on 2 wheels. Still, no flat is better than plugging a flat tire.

As for inflation, I have a super compact German made footpump, which will inflate a P/U tire in reasonable time. Carried it on last 4 M/C.

Not had a M/C puncture since 70s, but prefer to be prepared for solo rides in remote areas out of cell service.

Without a plug kit, I would be walking along the shoulder, looking for a screw to insert in a puncture to get me home.

Some riders are satisfied with a cell phone and credit card, but many of my rides have limited cell service.
 
I use it in both spyder and Subaru Forester. Like having the extra flat protection. As other said if tires sit for a while you will notice out of balance for a short period
