• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Battery went bad so I unhooked the old battery and tried it with a good battery an it turn over once and made a noise through the speakers and check DPS came up on the screen.
 
That would be a power steering code, but it's highly unlikely that the PS is the problem. My bets would go for the "good" battery not being fully changed, a loose battery connection, or a loose connection on the other end of the battery cables. Were you possibly trying to turn the wheels when starting. The DPS unit has a rather large amp draw.

But if you really want to know just about everything there is to know about DPS unit's & their potential issues, simply type 'DPS' into the Search field up toward the Top Right of the page; tick the 'Search Titles Only' box in the drop-down list below that; submit your Search; and spend however long you feel necessary reading the results! There's bssically NO real differences between the DPS units, their operation, & any faults they might have, regardless of what year/model Spyder you might have; so even if the thread title/sub-Forum heading says RT, ST, or maybe GS/RS, it's very likely that the thread content will still be applicable to your F3. :thumbup:

It ALWAYS pays to do a Search like that ^ FIRST, before starting a new thread ;) There's very little to be known about Spyders over their entire production run that hasn't been at least touched upon here already, if not already asked and answered, so the chances are that you'll find something helpful in the older threads; and it's also very likely that you'd be much better off to ask for any clarification necessary on your particular concerns in one of the existing threads! But please do check the date the thread started and the dates on at least the last few posts in an older, already existing thread - there's nothing wrong with & a whole lot right about a little thread archeology, IF it's going to help you, but the members who posted in that thread may no longer be around if it's old enough! So yeah, please do that Search and preferably add to an existing thread if it looks like it'll help resolve your issues. However, even while doing that, there's probably not too much point in you directing any specific questions to anyone with a grey or red username (both are no longer active on the Forum :p ) or asking them of someone who last posted in that thread saaay, 2-3 years ago, let alone 10 or more years ago! :lecturef_smilie: But everyone currently active will still see your post via the New Posts &/or Today's Posts searches, so it'll be seen & with any luck, answered sooner rather than later - especially if you make it clear in your post that you have done that searching & reading already, but still need a hand/some clarification. :thumbup:

Still, like Ed said, this really sounds like you've got a 'less than fully charged/load capable battery' in BOTH of them!! These Spyders, especially the 2022 & on Spyders, with their 'factory provided too small' batteries are quite prone to this, as they are all EXTREMELY power hungry, the DPS on all of them ESPECIALLY so; and if your battery doesn't hold a MINIMUM of 12 volts or better under full Spyder starting loads, then you'll very likely get spurious messages like 'Check DPS', 'VSS Warning', or maybe even a Brake or ABS Failure Warning &/or other similar warnings - possibly you'll even get a few of them or all of them at once!! :banghead:

So I'd suggest your first task (after doing that Search & spending some time reading, of course! :p ) should be to put whatever battery you are going to use to try and start your Spyder onto a 'proper' battery charger for at least 8 hours (even... no, ESPECIALLY if it's a brand new battery, cos very few retailers &/or dealers will charge them properly BEFORE installing them, but they SHOULD, & if you don't KNOW for certain that they have, then YOU REALLY SHOULD! :spyder: ) If you can, once charged, load test the battery, even a brand new battery, just to make sure that it's got better than 12 volts & 21 A/h cca on hand, and only then try starting your Spyder.

If it starts, but the message &/or any codes don't go away immediately, carefully go for a local ride, just don't get too far from home, cos if the battery isn't up to it and dies while you're too far away from home, it'll be a right pain to get it back! And yes, a poor battery can show up suddenly & effectively out of the blue even while the engine is running & you're out riding - doing the slightest thing 'extra' (like turning a corner or maybe just changing lanes! :opps:) that pushes the voltage requirement beyond that available from the magneto on a V-twin Spyder or the alternator on a 1330 powered Spyder can mean that the engine & computers just shut down & won't start again, and if the battery dies enough that it can't even provide sufficient juice to keep the alternator up & running while you're riding, you juuust might find the Spyder simply stops running & won't start again - and if it does that, it'll usually do it right at the most inconvenient &/or dangerous time/place! :yikes:

Dynamic Power Steering...

An extremely power hungry device. Basically an electric motor that adds a great deal of steering assist at low speeds tapering off to zero at 35 mph.

Like Ron said above, the DPS is extremely power hungry. Per the shop manual peak current draw can be up to 60 amps.
