What do you pay for regular service?

I was talking to our local dealer and asked what regular service cost for a RT-S...She told me $400 to $450 for an oil change (600, 3K, 6K, 9K)....REALLY????:hun:

I know some will do there own service, but for us wrench challenged people what do you all pay??

Sounds like they are taking advantage of you. Find out what they charge per hour of labor. Call other dealerships and find the best deal. Remember though that the least expensive is not always the best service. My 600 mile service was under $200 and that included oil and filters.

Looking at my bill I would have guessed the 600 miler to be about $250 had I not ordered some extra lights and had them installed...
Your dealer seems on the high side... more questions need to be asked!

My 6k mile service was $169.00 plus tax. That included the oil change and the switching of my 12volt outlet from keyed to constant power.

I know you get what you pay for, but I would say thats a little high in price.

When one of my Customers would say isn't my price high, I Would say to them ; You don't pay me for what i do , You pay me for what i know!!
Sometimes if you like the work and service your dealer gives, Whats a few extra bucks after all is said and done and were all in the box;)

high price

just had my 6000km service done, oil and filter and transmission filter changed as well plus they adjusted the belt total bill was 229.00 dollars. The labor for this job was a 100.00 dollars the rest was parts

As they also say: The "Hired Gun" isn't paid by the bullet... he's paid to know where to put them! :D

That seem high end on service on the 600 mile check they change the oil and filter cost ( $60 - $70 parts) labor $100 PH total $160 Than they go over the :spyder: add 1 hr. Total $260 I was less that $200 but that was almost 1 year ago. I do remenber that when I had the 3000 mile service that they charge the oil/filter $120 parts and labor thats when I started doing my oil changes. The only time I take mine in for service is when there something need to be done that I don't think I can handle. Example: rear tire change/ mine seen better days) If you have other dealers in the area check around.

I have a maintenance contract but I request a receipt for each service so I have some proof that they were done. My 600 mile service was $286 and the 3,000 mile servive was also $286.

I agree with this to a point. But it could very well be an apprentice doing the oil change, not their top service technician. It does definitely seem a little on the steep side for oil change, but then again, the RT is even more challenging to work on than the gs or rs apparently.

if you feel like you're being asked to "take one for the team"...?; ask the svc mgr upfront, what the menu pricing is. and then hold their feet to the fire about it.

600, 3000 and 6000 svc were ALL under $200. if there are extras being done or charged for... ASK WHY. even though this is considered a high dollar vehicle for maintenance... you shouldn't be hit up for a HUGE mark up in svc costs.

I was talking to this dealer trying to BUY a Spyder from them (before contacting Cowtown) I asked what I should expect to pay for regularly scheduled service....She (sales lady) called back in the back and talked directly to the service manager....He read to her exactly what the service manual calls out for each service interval....All they are is changing is OIL and FILTER then they CHECK several other things, nothing else....

Once I got this information I posted here to see what others where paying for their service. Another local (further away but still local) had quoted me what you all are saying you are paying...Just wanted to verify that the other local dealer seemed to be on par with the "normal" dealers....

This has come up a few times. Usually from $200-$400 for the oil change type service. I paid about $280 for my last one.

The cost of :spyder2: maintainence for us non-mechanics--seems way out of line to me--in the great scheme of things.

Having owned 3 :spyder2:'s, I have literally spent thousands of $ on routine maintainence. (50,000 plus miles worth)

In comparison--I have 5000 miles on my Vulcan and have spent $75 on service so far. (Oil change, filter, and 600 mile break-in checkup). From the same dealer I bought the :spyder2:'s from.

Any naked bike will cost less to maintain than a faired bike. It takes time to strip off the epidermis to get at the goodies.

Ask before hand

I have learned, in all things, to ask before what it is going to cost.if I don't ask then MY problem if I get the shaft!!..most times even have them write it down...eliminates alot of shock...if I don't like the price I try negotiating (if I want to deal with that person/business) lower...and make sure I always have options if I feel that this is me getting screwed without first getting "kissed". My dealer has been more than fair in what he charges me...BUT I still always ask. i.e. my last charge with Roundy's (Spokane, WA) was $389. which included not only the 12,000 check of valves, etc (not oil & oil filter had that done previous visit: $80 labor and I provide filters (Bajaron cheaper than dealer)+Amsoil (my choice for oil)...ok I digressed (what's new huh :roflblack::roflblack: ) back to 12k...ok the $389 tab also included 2 new front tires and adding tricled's to my front fenders (labor only I puchased lites)....so my recommendation is get a clear answer to price BEFORE... then you control what you pay. Much easier on the stress out meter!!!!

Well I intentionally omitted what this dealer quoted me for the 12K service as it seems much more labor intensive...Seeing you mention you paid $389 for your 12K service....

This local dealer told me they would charge me $1200 for the 12K service...Glad you posted your service price...Now before I get the ole shaft I can go to another local dealer, which is further away but much more reasonable on their service rates...

I am guessing that they are talking about the labor involved for taking Spyder apart to examine the valves. That was about $800 of the bill for me. I did it on my first Spyder. Spyder 2 (20,000 miles) and Spyder 3 (17,000 miles) have not had the check and are running fine.

I am not sure what MurphyBrowns dealer did to check valves--but I am guessing they did a "yep--the valves are there" check--if anything.

A lot of us are bypassing the 12,000 and 24,000 valve checks--because most that do it--are finding it was for nothing.

Hey, you mentioned a closer dealership than HF, do you mean Seymours or is there another one that is closer?
