• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Oil

Last night went on a weekly group ride with 19 other bike enthusiasts. Got a lot of people asking me questions about the Spyder. I mentioned all the extra things I carry with me. Wouldn't you know that one of the ladies in the group riding a Harley was low on oil. I always carry a litre of oil just in case and it allowed her to take part in the ride. I read a while ago on our site keeping extra oil and thought it was a good idea. She was so happy considering no one else had oil she wanted to give me $20 instead I took a medium twist ice cream cone.

I personally would not bring extra gas unless it was professionally installed as a secondary tank.

What I tend to carry:
First aid kit with trauma supplies (items for excessive bleeding, bandages, 4x4's tampax, tournequet)
Medications and personal items
Tool kit> build your own based on what you can physically do along the road side; socket set, wrenches, screw drivers, allen wrenches, wire strippers and quick electrical connectors, electrical tape, zip ties. Include a good knife.
Any small extra parts you think you need; plastic rivets, fuses, only practical items for quick repairs.
Small fire extinguisher.
Small air compressor and tire plug repair kit.
Bungie cords, rope.
Safety supplies (whatever you feel comfortable with); pepper spray, pistol and 2 extra mags.
Rags, windshield cleaner, spray detailer polish.
Maps or GPS unit.
List of phone numbers, emergency and contact numbers, doctors phone numbers.
Extra $ and credit cards
Rain gear
I usually carry gum and a bag of jerkey, 2 bttls of water.

This does not include clothing and hygenne supplies.

Remember....if you forget something you can usually find a place to buy something.

With the extra storage available on most Spyders....this is not a problem. I had a Honda ST1300 and carried all of this and more.

Lastly...............if you are single.......................AN EXTRA HELMET ! :yes::shocked::ohyea::doorag::lecturef_smilie::clap:

Good list -
As for extra gas, I also was concerned about that, but after my ryde to Tucson and back earlier this year, I no longer worry. When I was out west where towns were few and far between, I would check my mileage since last fillup, as I was approaching a gas station, and use my ZUMO 660 to see how far away the next gas station was, in the direction I was headed. A couple times, I refilled when I was only two gallons down, but by doing this, I never had a problem and never saw a low gas light. I carry lots of water - drink a bottle at every stop - two if I didn't need to use the rest room.

 I hope that you used the Eastern Bloc Countries first... ;)

Oh no. I respectfully disagree, Bob. In my experience, there are fewer English-speakers in eastern Europe than in western Europe. Use the maps for Paris or the UK first. If you get lost there it's easier to ask directions.

 A practical application that I hadn't thought of...

I wonder why I didn't think of it? :dontknow: :roflblack:

Better to be up schitt creek with people you can communicate with.... [emoji13]

packing for a trip

One item I always have in my RT is a Zero Gravity personal power supply kit.
It can boost most any vehicle, charge or run about all of your electronics and
it comes in a very nice pouch. All kinds of adapters for anything electronic and is about
6"x 8" x 1" thick. Tom Cat mini compressor is my next have to have item.

Have been coast to coast at least 8 times, Every state in the lower US Every providence in Canada and Alaska twice. Plus touring of Mexico. And never had to carry any of the long list that is posted here. I do at this time carry an extra gallon of gas as I like to go on long rides where the next gas is unknown. But have only been riding since 1945 so don't know much about it. Only know what makes me happy and what makes you happy should be #1 on your list.

<in addition to lists already posted>

Spare Key hidden somewhere on bike
small, inexpensive voltmeter
bailing wire
bungee cords
tire pressure gauge
bee sting anti itch stuff
chap lip stuff
sunscreen
spare eye protection
stabil fuel additive (fights ethanol)
tiny pouch or small can WD40
small battery charger/tender
