• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. What do you bring on board your bike?

My son and I have done many short rides... we just brougot a brp trailer and want to prepare for longer rides. What do you /should be bring with us. I wanted a gas can... but concerned it's unsafe, flares, additional riding clothing, what else.. what is the "right" combination of tools... what is too much, too little... what do you bring? Thanks in advance.

Trip

Definitely rain gear. Take clothes for any kind of weather. Extra oil, brake fluid. Thus is just to start with.

I personally would not bring extra gas unless it was professionally installed as a secondary tank.

What I tend to carry:
First aid kit with trauma supplies (items for excessive bleeding, bandages, 4x4's tampax, tournequet)
Medications and personal items
Tool kit> build your own based on what you can physically do along the road side; socket set, wrenches, screw drivers, allen wrenches, wire strippers and quick electrical connectors, electrical tape, zip ties. Include a good knife.
Any small extra parts you think you need; plastic rivets, fuses, only practical items for quick repairs.
Small fire extinguisher.
Small air compressor and tire plug repair kit.
Bungie cords, rope.
Safety supplies (whatever you feel comfortable with); pepper spray, pistol and 2 extra mags.
Rags, windshield cleaner, spray detailer polish.
Maps or GPS unit.
List of phone numbers, emergency and contact numbers, doctors phone numbers.
Extra $ and credit cards
Rain gear
I usually carry gum and a bag of jerkey, 2 bttls of water.

This does not include clothing and hygenne supplies.

Remember....if you forget something you can usually find a place to buy something.

With the extra storage available on most Spyders....this is not a problem. I had a Honda ST1300 and carried all of this and more.

Lastly...............if you are single.......................AN EXTRA HELMET ! :yes::shocked::ohyea::doorag::lecturef_smilie::clap:

I want to carry..I can in ME and VT.... not permitted in NY etc... great list there... time to get some stuff together. Thanks!

It depends on how long you'll be gone and where you're going. I doubt you'd need a gas can in the lower 48 or most of Canada. As for gear, I found on the North To Alaska trip, I had way too much stuff with me and sent a bunch of it home. I've whittled my packing list way down and will test it on my next trip. If you find you need something you forgot, there're Wal-Marts all over the place.

Instead of flares which are bad for the environment and bad if they light and burn up your vechicle, look at getting some Power Flares. http://www.powerflare.com
I carry two of these in my Spyder. I also carry four in my truck.

As for gas, get one of those square containers other have mentioned on here. I have two MSR fuel bottles I carry but it's not much fuel. In an tight situation, they may get me to a gas station.

I carry extra tools, water, phone, spare tire for the trailer, rain gear, battery work light, Surefire flashlight and my 'dog' Glock. I run two GPS units. A Zumo and a map GPS.

I just bring my wife, she knows everything that I could ever need so I don't have to worry about.

Sempert out,

I always forget something
But the one thing I always bring and never forget is a
GREAT BIG SMILE :roflblack::D:D:thumbup::ohyea::clap::thumbup:

Bring your spirit of adventure and your Visa card.

Flares ? really ? I guess if you're punching holes in the night, but probably
not my cup of tea.

All kidding aside, what do you need for comfort ?. My dear wife Marie, wanted hot water
for coffee, tea, or cocoa WHEREVER we were. So we always packed a little
electric teapot. You will figure this out, and understand going in... no matter if you pack the
kitchen sink, you will probably need the bathtub.

Are you riding 2-up? Or individual machines ? That might make a difference too. Stay Safe !

Depends..!

all trips are a bit different. You need to travel a bit and see just how much you need. From all the above you may need another trailer...:roflblack::roflblack: I find the more space you have the more useless stuff you take. You do not have to fill the trailer :lecturef_smilie:thats what the trip is for. Tools can be limited to what you are able to do repairwise..gas.. I carry a liter that will get me about 15 more miles ( have never used it) 1qt of oil for top off (have a 998 twin) first aid kit, rain gear, heated gear if I will need it warm jacket if not. A Antigravity power pack (jump start and or charge electronic flashlight) plug kit with air supply, may have missed an item but all this fits in a little less than half the frunk on my RS. I travel light. Carry old stuff I can toss (usually goodwill) and pick up new...

we have traveled for years....20+....we take the same things rather a weekend or 12 weeks......wear a set of jeans...t-shirt...socks...personal....boots...jacket....either summer or winter....then....1 extra jean...3 or 4 extra t-shirts....4 extra socks...personal 4 extra.....flip-flops and a pair of shorts for evening laying around hotel...plus when you wash your clothes.....electric heated jacket....forget all the layering....to much trouble...takes up too much room.....splurge...buy a heated jacket......daily personal hygiene stuff....any extra first aide you might think you want.....tools for the bike.....rain gear....bike cover...paper map book.....GPS...each are good...together wonderful......bathing suit for summer travel or in-door pools...flash light...umbrella.... if you get stranded....the shade will help by 15 degrees....most of all...have fun...enjoy
