What are your thoughts on Magic Mirrors or Magnetic Mirror mounts for a 2016 RT Limited?

Hello I’ve just been informed the dealer here in NY will not service any Spyder over 10 years old. So I guess I will be tackling my maintenance now. My question is on the mirror removal for an oil change. Looking for your thoughts on magic mirrors or magnetic mirror magnets. I cringe at the thought of removing the mirror for an oil change and breaking a clip. Not to mention the dealer states parts are hard to find. Body panel wise I’m sure my '16 is the same as a '19.

Several weekends ago I traveled to a friends house to show him how to do an oil change on his 2016 RTl. I also was concerned about the mirrors. I was pleasantly surprised he had magnetic mirror magnets on. I was nicely pleased how easily they came off and reinstalled with the magnets. I rode his RT for over an hour after doing his oil change and the mirrors had zero vibrations. Also spend the few bucks on hex head oil bolts Lamonster sells. It makes oil changes much less frustrating fighting star fasteners plus a allen keyed plug (especially if the get some trash in them). If you don't already have a manual for your spyder purchase one.

I can do an oil and filter change for around $80 with a far superior lubricant than what you get for what I understand is over $300 from the dealer. Your first oil change pays for the magnets and maintenance manual. There are some great videos on doing some of the more challenging items also. You will never be stuck in line again waiting for your turn to have something simple performed by the dealer.

Magnetic mirrors are the way to go. Even if you do the mirror removal correctly. Eventually, the contact points will get loose, start to shake as you ride, and maybe even lose a mirror. The kit is easily installed and permanently resolves the problem.

Magic Mirrors are GREAT. Whoever designed the mirrors on the early Spyders should be tarred and feathered.

I had the Magic Mirror Mounts on my 2014 RTS-SE6 (since sold) and they work great.

Magic Mirror Mounts are just one of the things that makes life a little sweeter. When I traded my 1st Spyder for another, I purposely removed my Magic Mirror Mounts and reinstalled them on the next Spyder... Yep, that's how good they are!

(If you change out the original mirror clips, keep them just in case you happen to trade up, providing they can be used on the next model!)

Go online and get yourself a shop manual, ether downloadable, they are cheap, or hard cover style, more $$$! It will be the best money you can spend and it's a great help, then all you got to do is take a deep breath and dive in!!

Made my own magic mirror mounts and saved $$$. I only have two magnets, not three, because you don't need that extra one unless you just want to have it. They've been on my Spyder for over ten years now with no adverse issues. Long ago, someone on this site listed all the parts needed and where to buy them. Check the search section for more info. Just DON"T get your finger caught between two of those magnets.

My mirrors were rattling with every little bump in the road and now, with the magnetic mirror mounts, not a sound.
Worked great on my 2012 RTS and they were also an easy install.
Go for it.

Donbmw I think 2010 thru 2019 the mirrors have to come off for any maintenance. And banging the mirror the way you need to the clips break

I had them installed on my 14 RT last year after I lost a mirror housing on the freeway when I rode over a tree trunk by accident. Funny thing is I rolled over it on my right wheel/tire, but the left mirror jarred loose and hit the pavement. Decided to get the magnets to help avoid that. They do make taking the mirrors off/on much easier.

Put them on my '16 RT. The dealer says they keep 100's of the mirror clips in stock because the techs are always braking them....

crna59 your lucky to have a dealer who will work on a 2016, the one near Syracuse won’t even touch one over 10 years old. Looking forward to doing my own maintenance buying the magic mirrors and some other items from Lamonster. Then I will research oil but buy my filters and such from a supporting vendor from this site.

Mirrors do come off depending on what panels that need to be removed. But I don’t need to for a oil change for my 2010, only the LH panel that you remove to check oil level.
