• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What am I overlooking?

As I compare the specs of 2015 and 16 RT SE I see only 2 noticeable mechanical upgrades. The ABS brakes is a big 1 and a long time coming. And an Android compatible output. Is there anything else?

Your down to one...

All models from the begining have had ABS brakes. They changed to Brembos a while ago so it looks like all your getting is colors and android compatability..:banghead: but one has to dig deep cause some changes are not visible nor mentioned...

I too understand that all Spyders have ABS since they were first introduced. On our 14 RTs the brake ABS controller is obviously apparent to the naked eye.

The electronic interface is cool and probably overdue. However truth be told, I see no real need anymore since our electronics on the 14 is well sorted out. While a USB is cool, a simple adapter can be used in the rear compartment for charging, and the current IPod adapter is fine once understood.

Android compatibility? Never heard of that. A USB port is not "Android compatibility" just makes it easier rather than the MP3 connection.

Bob, being the electronics genius that you are...is it possible for the IPod to function, and use the fighter pilot left grip to control, via a USB port in the trunk.

I never bothered to research, but unless a PC, travel drive, dedicated system, and maybe the IPod is, wouldn't the Can Am USB need to be more than a power port? I saw what Lamont photoed and posted, that seems like a dedicated USB interface harness.

Seems BRP or the aftermarket should offer an interface cable for the new Apple stuff and / or an interface cable with a USB pigtail.

Any thoughts?

It gives you the same control on the grip for your playlist as the ipod did, it's not just a USB charger with audio input. You can also use a jump drive and control your music from the bars.

OK so it's a fully function USB port like on a PC.

Do you know I the radio is still made by Radio Sound?

PMK, if this is a fully functional USB port as Lamont said, then for iPhone/iPod, you would just use the USB cable that comes with the iPhone/iPod. Be it the new lightening style or the old 32 pin style.

Agree, if what is shown is full function and not a simple charger that is cool. By the look of the stick plugged into it, that may be the case. SO it now makes me wonder if the onboard electronics has the ability to read a travel drive or similar and play data from it.

So what we need for the 15 and prior is a full function interface cable that fits the trunk round connector and has a USB pigtail???

I asked if this was backwards compatible and it's not. You can plug any data source into like a android phone and it will play and you can control the music from the bars, change tracks.

I do not know who the radio is made by, didn't ask. Sorry

OK now I am confused.

Previously if you plugged an Android phone into the trunk jack as a MP3 player, you could change tracks before from the handle bars. So that's not new.

But what you did not have on the display was Albums, Artists, etc menus like a Apple iPhone or iPod allows (beacuase of Apples unique protocol that Android does not have).

So I thought you were saying now that with an Android phone you can get similar menus like Apple devices?

Yes, I didn't try it but that's what I was told. I know from the jump drive you could read the artist on the screen.

That is normal for a MP3 player or Android over a USB connection (not just an audio connection like before). If the song has meta-data it can be used by MP3 players to display the song title, artist, etc.

But having iPod like controls for Android or just music on a flash drive, I don't think is there because these devices don't have it by nature unless you add an APP or something. Apple has that protocol locked down with patents.
