• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Not real happy right now, went to work monday, started raining,VSS,DPS, fault codes right away. Had my brother take spyder to local dealer. codes were cleared. He was told that is what happens when you ride in the rain. The bike is ready to go now, so he starts home with it. Before getting home it starts raining, it goes into limp mode. I get off work on Sunday, (yes, I get home one day per week) pick up the bike and find it in limp mode. Just befor I get home, it starts raining. So brother is out about $30.00 for gas to do me a favor and find that after all that, nothing was accomplished. How much does the software cost to delete fault codes? If I have to take it to the shop every time I ride it is time to carry my lap top, or to sell the Spyder for loan payoff.OR IS THERE ELSE THAT CAN BE DONE?

The dealer is an idiot! This is not normal for a Spyder, rain or no rain. Many of us have ridden hundreds of miles in heavy rains, with no problems at all. There are a variety of possible reasons for the series of fault codes. Most of them are simple cures or adjustments. The dealer could have looked at the order in which they occurred, and could have had a better idea of the cause...if he wasn't a lazy imbecile. Take it back, see the business owner, and demand satisfaction. There is no software available for you to clear these codes...although shutting off the Spyder, removing the key a distance from the vehicle for at least 30 seconds after the display times out, and restarting will usually do the trick. The codes will remain in the computer and available to BUDS for later diagnostics, BTW.

Anyway, in no particular order, here are some typical causes:

1. Loose battery connections (at the battery terminals inside the bodywork...not under the seat).
2. Loose negative jumper (under the seat).
3. Steering sensors not zeroed properly.
4. The rider is resting his foot on the brake pedal...even lightly.
5. Brake light bulbs burned out (RS).

If the battery terminals are the cause, your Spyder may need to have the battery charged before the codes will clear. There are other possibilities, but these are some of the common ones. I hope you get a better tech the next time you visit the dealer. Chat with the business owner, too. If he is a righteous guy, he will compensate you for your trouble...maybe with a free T-shirt or a future discount or something. No good businessman wants his customers to be treated like this.

Agree with Scotty.. That dealer is a crock of sh!!!! I have ridden 13 straight hours in driving rain and heavy winds without a problem. and here in florida the last six or seven times I have ridden it has rained on me (I love the rain because it cools the temps and doesn't hurt the :spyder2: in the least.. Some of these dealers are unbelieveable in the stories they will tell to cover their incompetence!!!

Your Dealer is full of It!

I really wish someone (BRP) would hold their dealers accountable & make sure that they are properly trained & that they don't give out bad information to customers/owners. This is just NOT ACCEPTABLE!

Your dealer is FULL OF :cus:! The Spyder is a very capable vehicle to be driven in the rain, as I (along with many others) can personally attest to. Teddy & I use his RT-S as our daily driver thru sun, rain, sleet & snow even, year round. We've never once thru codes from ryding in the rain. We do however get the Nanny to kick in (designed to) every now & then when in the snow or ice.

My bet, your dealer has impropperly set-up your Spyder & you most probably have something loose/not seated properly & the water getting in, do to this, is what is causing your issues, this is not usually a problem with Spyders.

If you have another dealer thats relatively close, I'd suggest going there for a 2nd opinion & see what they tell you. Good Luck, I know its frustrating.

I agree with Scotty and BikerDoc. I've personally ridden hundreds and hundreds of miles in driving rains without getting any kind of fault code or limp mode. Don't accept that lame excuse from the dealer - or find another one that is competent. The Spyder is a vehicle designed to be used outdoors, and it will perform in almost any weather except ice and snow.

:agree: with the above. Scotty has given the best technical advice--and your problem is one or more of the issues he mentioned.

Any dealer that would give you that kind of bs would not be on my list of good dealers. What nonsense to imply the :spyder2: cannot be ridden in the rain. Why would anyone want to own one if that were the case.

I come from a very rainy area--and would be in a heap of trouble if I could not ride in the rain.

I would look for another dealer--because you may get some interesting answers from your current dealer if you have further mechanical problems.

rain I live in wahsington and i ride 12 month a year and have never had mine go in to limp mode in over 18,000 miles.

Sounds like your Spyder sits for a week at a time. I would throw it on a charger (battery tender or the likes) while it's sitting and I'll bet your codes will clear.

Wet ryding

Thanks for tech. advice. Brake light was burned out. I,m glad I made the mod. for getting to the lights after installing the backrest. It was a lot easier than taking off the backrest & rear rack just to get to the lights. Lamonster, I wish I could put a batt. tender on it while at work, but I have to park away from all electric. I just cover it up. Again thanks to everyones tech advice. HAPPY SPYDER RYDER AGAIN.
