• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

A Can-Am Spyder dealer likely won't have a non-chipped blank anyway. Most hardware stores use blanks from a company called ILCO. Do a search for ILCO here on this site but one guy mention blank X270. I also think you will need to file down sides of the key (not where it was cut) to get it in the ignition to unlock things by pushing it down like the chipped OEM key.

Get yourself and Ilco X-270 key blank, and have a hardware store cut it to match your "Chipped" key.
Note that it has a very Square body on it. You'll need to bevel the edges with a file so that you can push it down into the ignition switch (and open the trunk or seat!)

Keys...

All major key shops have them. Hardwear store, autoparts stores as well will carry them. For the chip type you can usually find them there as well under the aprilla brand motorcycle key for the older models. (08-13)...

I did have to hunt around for the Ilco X270 blank because most hardware stores, although they had extensive Ilco inventory, did not have it. The store I got it from one of those old, classic ones whose motto is, "If we don't have it, you don't need it."

Had no idea a non-chip key was even an option. The information one learns on this site never ceases to amaze me.

Forgive my ignorance, but will a non-chipped key start ones Spyder? If it does, what is the point of the chip?

Thanks. Wish I asked before I ordered lol
Did you order a non-chip key? All is not wasted. Most everyone keeps a non-chip key in some location that is always accessible but somewhat hidden. That key is used to unlock the seat or frunk or trunk wherein somewhere a chip key is kept or hidden as a spare. This is in case you lose your primary key while riding away from home. Keeps you from being stranded.

To steal your bike a thief would have to first find your non-chip key and then would have to know to look for a chip key. This requires time and smarts, two commodities most thieves don't possess.

Their website says no products available when you select CanAm

On the home page, the first key, Honda X270, is the Ilco blank that works and must be beveled. Billy Bovine has one that looks like the second key and doesn't need beveling but would make too big a bulge in my wallet.

You don't have to carry it; hide it on the bike in an accessible, yet hidden location.

Not sure what good having a blank if it only opens a frunk or seat. Nothing fits in either that I'd need to get.

If you had a spare ignition key in either place; it could come in rather handy...
It's one of those things that you HOPE to never need; but sure are glad to have it, when you do! nojoke

This page shows both the programmable key and a non-programmable blank. $19 for the programmable and they can cut it for $6 with your key code and the page says they can program it as well if you contact them which I guess would mean sending them your spare? It says a local
locksmith can also do this stuff.

joebryanj can't use the programmable key. His signature says he has a 2014.
