Went Riding !

Buddy called me up and waned to put some miles on his Harley. Said something about "Blue Ridge Parkway".

Got to say riding here in East Tennessee is about as good as it gets.

Did 200 miles or so. My fuel milesage has been better since the 1st update. I got 38 mpg on this run. Went 173.2 miles on 4.56 gallons. Not too bad for tooling around in the mountains. We did take it easier than I normally do running behind Lamont.

I'm pretty confident about my mileage because I top of to where the fuel is all the way up in the neck. Hard to get different fill-up amounts doing it like that.

Spyder ran GREAT! Has been running really well since 1st Update.

One downside though. I did not realize it had cooled off so much. It was bright and sunny and warm, as long as you were standing still, in the sun, and the wind was not blowing.

I didn't dress warm enough and didn't take any gear with me. I froze my stuff.

Started out at 58 degrees but got down to 42 degrees by the end of the day. Most of the day was 52 degrees on the Parkway.

What made it worse was knowing all my cold weather gear was sitting comfortably at home awaiting my return. I wasn't really that cold. I've been colder. But I sure wasn't comfortable as I could have been.

:yikes::hun: Does your stuff still work after it thawed?

My stuff did thaw out. But I caught a bug and was up all night and down most of the day with that.

You'd think I'd learn. Too bad the Spyder's Nanny doesn't tell you when to bundle up! Should be a scroll warning when you don't dress properly!

Um...I will refrain from addressing "your stuff" and take the high road (for maybe the first time in my life!!!).

I was there for the Spyders in the Smokies event (and Lamonster's wonderful BBQ) and got to ryde the Blue Ridge Parkway... EXCELLENT scenery and ryding!!! :2thumbs: I'm jealous I can't ryde that whole area whenever I want!

So...stop complaining about being cold and carry a windbreaker! :D (ha! I'm soooo funny!...ok...it's all in my head!) :roflblack:

I ride all winter, From Oct. on i keep my electric jacket in the Spyder's trunk when i start getting cold i take it out and put it on. I Took a ride to honesdale PA. Friday. 170 mile round trip,
35 degree's warm as toast. If you ride in the winter it's the only way to go.

You are so right. Electric is the only way to go. I've got electric gloves but I have always wanted a jacket or at least the vest.

2 years ago Lamont and I went to Daytona Bike Week. Going over the mountain it got down to 24 degrees. Now that was cold!

Maybe FireFly has a chance this coming year.....

. . . . . with your stuff frozen, the Gatlinburg Cornhole Championship is up for grabs now.

But, to get back on this topic . . . . yes, a heated vest is great. I just got heated gloves, but have not had a chance to try them yet - probably tomorrow night. Being out here in NM, lately the highs have been around 80 and the lows in the 30s. Big temp swings to dress for. But besides the vest, I carry my First Gear Thermosuit:

, which is absolutely required after the Sun sets if you want to keep your stuff warm.

Nah, I've snowmobiled at minus 24. Thats ccccold!

Forget the vest - definitely go for the full sleeve jacket. I hate being cold and start putting my Cortech Synergy heated jacket on whenever the temps fall below 70 nojoke. I've pulled all the liners (vest or long sleeve) out of all my cool/cold weather jackets and only wear the Synergy under them all. It takes up the same amount of space, so they don't feel too snug, but then I always have option of being toasty warm. (My old Gerbing gloves and my Gerbing heated pants also plug into the Synergy although I haven't worn the pants in years - if hands and upper body are warm, legs aren't smart enough to know they're chilly!) All my bikes are wired to plug in to my jacket (which then powers the gloves and pants). I ride anywhere from 60's down to 15 to 17 degrees in winter and am always comfortable thanks to the hi/med/low choice of heat in the jacket. Best $140 I ever spent! Love the way the controller fastens to the band on your leg where you can always see it, find it and push it with left hand.

Glad you had a great ride, but sorry to hear about the bug.

From what I have read lately, the newest enhancements to the Spyder that BRP needs to look at is a scrolling warning to "Put Your Helmet On" and now one that says "It Is Cold Outside, Bundle Up".

Sounds like a great plan to me! :roflblack:

A couple of times I have ridden at -40 and one in particular, road 300 miles, it might have gotten to -24 in the afternoon. Oh, no heat except handlebar grips. It was cold, had soom problems with snow dust unless I was leading. Would'nt think twice about riding the spyder down to 0 with handwarmers.

We are prepping up HDX for this contest next year

Some great suggestions for keeping your stuff from freezing. Believe me, once it's frozen it takes a long time to get it thawed out.

Being that I'm always late....I'm usually heading out with less that full preparation. It bites me from time to time and it's my own fault.
