• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

My computer died yesterday! :yikes: I think it had to do with the Norwegian Road video... After I viewed that; things got "wonky"...
I tried to go to a backup that I had in a removable drive. I hit the backup utility, and the dang thing KILLED the backup version, and then deleted my operating system. :gaah:
this wasn't about taking over a computer; it was about killing one!
I'm stuck with this I-Pad, and we don't get along...
I should have a new system here on Tuesdat, but I lost a LOT of irreplaceable files and pictures!

Oh! Tell Jim that I DIDN'T look at his post... I bet it had to do with that monster in South America... :yikes:

are you sure that clan that visited you last weekend didn't plant something in your office?:roflblack::roflblack:

That's the worst feeling in the world. I learned the hard way but not backing anything up.
You said you used a back up and it too got wiped so how will you protect yourself from this again? Will you have a back up of a back up? More robust virus/security software?

RE: Viruses picked up from opening various links on this site?

Does anyone know if there is some kind of site protection to avoid killer viruses that may be brought to the site??

Always assumed that people posting links were posting virus free ones. Now I am not sure I want to open up an unknown link???

So far, no ill effects noted from the Norwegian Road video. People warned there may be a virus attached--but I got no warning from my virus software.

Files May Still Exist

Bob ... this exact thing happened to me a few years ago (an anti-virus program cratered my system AND trashed my backup utility so I was unable to restore. However, all my files were still intact as the driver was NOT formatted during the restore attempt. I happen to have a few external drive boxes that I've purchased over the years and just dropped the old drive into one of these (may have to reconfig a jumper so it shows up as secondary drive). External drive is hooked to a USB port on the new computer and, voila ... files are still there! I just moved the data I wanted to keep to the new computer and kept the old drive around for a while, just in case I missed something.

Bottom line, you might be lucky as I was and have not really lost the files ... they may still be there and you just need a way to hook that old drive to your new computer (scan it for viruses .... I sure did with mine).

Wish you luck .... Ann

Bummer..!!

mine locks up with many videos...sorry yours was so randomly murdered..:banghead: I know when my operating system crashed I loaded it again in a different location and was able to access all my files. That computer now has three operating systems and I use a tablet most of the time.. Hope you are able to get your files back..

The iPad keyboard leaves something to be desired, doesn't it, Bob. I hope you didn't loose any business data in the crash.
Patti, Not only did I lose three and a half years' worth of business stuff...
I lost ALL of my pictures, emoticon libraries, Spyder manuals, contact information, JOKES, and Spyder reference material that I've been using in here to help answer the few questions that I can...:gaah::gaah::gaah::gaah::gaah::gaah::gaah::gaah::gaah::gaah::gaah::gaah::gaah::gaah::gaah::gaah: :banghead:

first let me say that if you take it to a computer store that might be able to recover a lot of info from it,,, than let me say you can pick up a lot of viruses from porn sights, don't ask me how i know that

I won't ask...
Since this IS my office rig; I'd never take a chance like that with it anyway!
The new one will be here on Tuesday. I'm going to call the Service Folks about seeing if anything on the detachable drive might be salvageable...

all kidding aside i had a problem and took the computer to a best buy and they fixed it for me and recovered a lot of stuff but they charge by the size of the data recovered so it is not cheap

You should sign up for an offsite backup service. Its VERY cheap and you would not have to worry about losing data again.

Thanks! Since I bought five years worth of service on the new one; I'll pick their brains about seeing if they can recover and transfer anything for me...

I DID make sure to get another Windows 7 rig... I figured that whatever was in the old one might be easier to re-integrate, if it came from the same system...
Besides; I actually LIKE 7!

i agree with Ann, there is a good chance the data is still intact, usually unless the drive is physically damaged, you should be able to retrieve it with the method above or if you have another PC to through it into as a slave or secondary drive, you should be able to copy your data! Good luck!

Guess no one wants to answer?

I think i posted that norwegian road video....no effects here...:dontknow: I think Bob is forgetting about the transsexual pygmies website he keeps visiting...:yikes: Oh, and since this site has become so sensitive to pretty much everything, I apologize in advance to the drama queens and of course the Trans pygmie riders...:p:rolleyes:

Back-up service

This past summer we lost 2 critical computers 3 weeks apart. These machines contained all of our financial data, point of sale data and functions and 15 years of art files. Within minuets of each "crash" we were pulling files from Carbonite and were completely restored on a new computer within 36 hours. No loss of data.:yes::yes: Yes, I am a beleaver in services like Carbonite.
