Well, I'm Selling My Spyder

Just a quick note here. The Dealer has been pretty good to me. I have known them for some time, and having them work on other bikes
i own. You sort of build a relationship with them as time goes on.. It's BRP who not only drags there feet when it comes to warrenty work.
But Like The DESS problem. they just didn't want to replace it. And they had to twice. IMHO...BRP will try very hard not to honor there
warrenty's , and hope the consumer will pay for repairs. 3000 miles is not a lot. And as well as I take care of my vehicles, I feel it was BRP,
and not the dealer at fault. Buyer Beware.

So you're dealer works on other bikes?
That's not a good sign in my book.. it means they'll put guys on it that would rather work on whatever other brands they sell. When you go to a dedicated Spyder dealer the techs work on them all day and will know them better. You might feel they're nice and a great dealer.. but in the end they haven't fixed your problems.

Just my .02.

Counterpoint accepted. :bowdown::bowdown:

These are the posts that scare me from getting Spyder, been looking since Dec and finally finally enrolled in a motorcycle class so that I can actually test drive one!

Honestly, you shouldn't worry about it. If you go to his profile, than there is not much of what he posted. He didn't actually utilize the forums like me. I am not sure if he ask questions regarding his Spyder, but all he did was that he just want to make an announcement of he is tired, and he is planning to go back to his Harley Davidson. For my understanding as an indirect message that Harley Davidson is better than a Spyder. Surprisingly, I heard Harley have more issues than a Spyder and that is coming from individuals who actually had Harley Davidson within this forum and friends who used to have these bikes.

In conclusion, if you are interested in getting a Spyder than you should just go for it. Life will always have obstacles, don't let anyone stir your decisions :)

:agree: Mike and Bob. A mechanically challenged dealer can make the difference between a good :ani29: and a bad :spyder2:. Guess I have been pretty lucky. (see my signature below!). Not a fun thing when the :f_spider: is not dependable or always in the shop.

Not it just that but how well you do your own PM (preventive maintenance) as well not just checking the fluids either, the service intervals has list of things to be inspected & adjusted or lubed:lecturef_smilie: & if missed:gaah::yikes: It will end up costing you more every time.
(Can be late but not ignored)

As well as pre-ride checks, all my :spyder2::ani29::f_spider: have been dealer serviced according to required maintenance schedule. That even includes two valve checks on two different (2008 and 2010) at 14K on the 08 and 28K on the 2010). I am done with valve checks on the 998's until at least 50K now. Have to agree, ride and forget is NOT an option here.

Spyders may be fine for riding back and forth to the coffee shop,
but they're hardly a dependable tourer. Dependable, is the key word here.
I don't why you say that. I rode my 2013 RT for 25,000 miles. Well, I did have to have the DPS unit replaced but I don't remember any other significant problem. My 2014 RTS had a bad brake motor but that didn't leave me stranded and it was replaced during Spyderfest. It's got 14,000 miles on it. I'm planning on traveling 2700 miles each way to Homecoming plus additional side trips. Not the least bit worried about taking off on that trip.

A person can either stay put and be unhappy because you're afraid of a "MAYBE" problem, or take off and be happy and "IF" something happens deal with it and keep going! :ohyea:

Even my 2005 Goldwing left me stranded one time! The fact that headwinds caused it to suck up much more gas than usual, and I ran out, probably had something to do with it. But, hey, I survived and had a great trip after I got more gas into the tank! The only thing certain about life is that it is uncertain!

RELIABILITY

I respect Jerbear's opinion about reliability but disagree that a Spyder is not a good long distance tourer. My first Spyder was a '13 ST-S and I put 25,000 miles on it in three years. No major issues. Traded it last year for a '15 F3-S and already have 13,000 miles on it. Between the two Spyders I have ridden to Texas, Spyderfest, Spyders on the Bayou, and Deadwood twice! Would not hesitate to ride long distance anywhere.

It's BRP who not only drags there feet when it comes to warrenty work.
Just don't delude yourself into thinking they're worse than anyone else. The radio in my 2005 Nissan Maxima won't play if the car is left in temps below freezing. It's been that way for years. After the dealer replaced audio components about 3 or 4 times Nissan said no more. "The radio plays when the car is warmed up, right? The owner isn't going to driving the car freezing cold anyway, so what's the big deal?" The dealer refused to leave the car out in the cold and work on it in the cold so there was no way for them to really figure out what was going on. After the extended warranty was done I never went back.

I looked back on your post and the only thing I really see is you have had problems with your radio? If that's enough to throw in the towel then just what till you get your Harley. I have a friend that purchased a 2016 Road King and has been in the shop five times since November for almost 2 weeks each time. And he has been stranded 2 out of the 5 breakdowns. I have had 2 Spyders for a total of 50k miles. I had only 1 issue so far was a slow leaking water pump on my F3, replaced under warranty in 2 1/2 hours. To each their own. Good Luck!

Reliability?

If I had the time: I'd take off for the Left Coast tomorrow! nojoke

...But I think that I'd want to take the scenic route.

I had 26000 miles on my 13 St Ltd when I traded it in last month. Other than normal warranty issues I loved it. It had heat issues in the beginning but BRP took care of that for me. I'm sorry you had problems but I think it's like anything else there are lemons in all makes and models. I got a 16 F3 and I'm looking forward to putting lots of miles on it .

Not going to argue the point with you sir. It's simply not worth it. And, gets neither of us anywhere.

Have a great day.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't have as good experience with Spyder as I've had. If you go back to Harley, you'll still get to ride in the wind. Good travels!

2016 RT Limited rode 6,634 miles Virginia to Utah and back with side trips all over with zero problems. Love the Spyder.

Another one on the flip side

5 Spyders

4 RTs

1 F3

approx 85,000 miles and no Problems other than Operator Error

the rest of the story................

3000.00 miles on it and I have nothing but trouble with it. From DESS to Hard Starting, Belt Runout, and a lot of little things hear and there. BRP
warrenty is usless. They don't want to back anything up. Really liked the F3, but it's in the shop more then I ride it. Looks like I am going back to
Harley Davidson. Well, you live and learn.

Which is it, back on April 24th 2016, last year you said
So Far. Have Had Good Luck With My 2015 F3

4000 miles and no problems so far. The first check up at 3000 miles went well with no problems. Maybe I got lucky.

and then in August

F3

I have had mine almost a year. I don't like the rear shock( to soft.) It needs a better sway bar. To much body roll.
Riding position is a bit awkward. Takes time getting use to. Has great power. As a second bike it's OK. But I don't think I would buy another
one.
In all fairness your posts that I showed above, indicated that the rear shock was too soft and the sway bar in adequate, there are solutions, but upgrades cost more.

January of this year you posted this:
There Are No Mechanics For Spyders

I too have had the same problem when it comes to service for my 2015 F3. I am approaching the 10,00 mile mark. And had service at the dealer at 9500. Althought having the extened warrenty and all. I still walked out having to drop 200.00 dollars. I like the F3, But I am going to sell it and go back to Harley Davidson Tri-Glide. At least there are dealerships all over Southern Califorina where you can get service. And owing Harleys in the past. They have stood behind there product. BRP is all about making money. That's their goal. Whittier Motorsports has been good so far. But there hands are tied when it comes to items BRP will not cover.

So which is it?? confused....3K, 10K, did you leave off a zero, and you are over the 10,000 mile mark ? You mention you paid $200 but don't say what for? Also you say you are from San Gabriel and have not gone to Berts Mega Mall, which is located right there in your back yard. You say you heard not good things based on what other people have said. I have had quite the opposite experience with them. Maybe try a new dealership. But if your mind is made up, then hope you enjoy the ride on your next one:thumbup:

How many members do we have on Spyderlovers 15,000? Plus a lot of owners who aren't members. I would venture to say that only a small percentage have had major problems, although a lot of small problems can be big problem for some. I would also say that most who don't have problems never say/post anything about it. But those that do aren't bashful about telling everyone that will listen. I have a 2012 RTS with almost 25000 miles on it and only 1 significant problem that was fixed by my dealer. I have had several minor problems that were mostly my own fault.
So everybodys experience is different, so you have to sift through the info and if you want one you want one. Even different peoples experience with the same dealer is different. OK enough of this.:D
