• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Weird Sounds

Hello All,

I started up my RSS to ride home today, and it was oddly quiet. It still runs perfectly, same power output and no check engine lights or other oddities. However when I roll on the throttle, instead of getting that ever so joyful rumble out of the hindle, I am getting what I can only describe as a "belt spinning" type noise that you would get from a car, but its obviously not that if I am having no loss in power. when sitting idle it is WAY quieter than normal, again making a very low almost belt moving type noise...

I suspect that there may be a seal failure somewhere in the exhaust and it is letting out exhaust before it reaches the hindle so less pressure less noise?

If anyone has any insight on this i'd appreciate it! As I am not mechanically inclined, I could not say for sure what is going on.

What year is your RSS? This might the one with mystery sound or the stealth version that BRP trying to sell to the oooppps:yikes:

Mystery Sound

My Guess is the exhaust gasket has come loose and lodged some where inside the pipe / CAT / Silencer. When I was in Auto Shop in high school, I dropped a 3/4" socket down the exhaust pipe of my Mom's 369cc Caprice.. When she got it back, she said, "Whats the Whistling noise" she lived with it a few more years.

Same experience2011RTL

I thought it was just my old ears and hearing. But in the 3,000 miles I have on it I have experienced this about ten different times. I always chalked it up to it was having a good day and felt like it needed to get out an.run. Which is exactly what I did. Do or did you think it performed better in the quiet mode?

It's the first time I ever experienced this, I did not notice any difference in power at all. Is this something that resolved itself for you over time? I am wondering if it has anything to do with the deluge of rain we've had lately.

Air box issue??? I would have someone stand near the exhaust and see if they hear anything. Just my 2 cents worth.

If the exhaust was leaking before it got to the can; you'd have more noise than you could shake a stick at!
Have you cleaned the wax out of your ears recently? :joke: :roflblack: :joke:

Well,I have been told I can see thunder and hear lightning! But I do not believe it. If it was attributable to rain it could be arthritis
