• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Weird Engine Cutting Out

I was wondering if anybody has had the same experience. Today I was accelerating from a standstill when the engine cutoff after I shifted into second. No sputter or anything! Instantly cut off. I activated the clutch and restarted the engine and kept on going. It was a good thing it started right away and that I was not merging into busy traffic. Could have been scary. I wonder what happened?

No, but i have accidently hit the engine cut-off switch with my big ol' thumb and had to quickly restart to keep from getting run over. :redfaced:

It's happened to me, but I know when I did it, I had not given it enough throttle when I shifted gears. Not saying thats what happened to you, but I know thats what I did. This is my first open air ride and I'm still getting used to a hand throttle, and turning, and the open air part, and....

I've had the same experience in the first 150 miles of the break-in period. I suppose it was part operator error, part break-in of the friction zone on the clutch.

Haven't had the problem in 500 miles.

:spyder:Have had this happen about 7 or 8 times now and I'm close to 4k no explained reason fully warmed up
various speeds other than that runs very well.No were near shut off switch must be a slight glitch with fuel injection asked dealer not aware of problem yet just hope its mapping and they will figure it out soon :spyder:

Interesting, sounds like something is going on. I am not particulary fond of any machine that I am driving stopping for no reason. Hope that BRP becomes aware of the problem and comes up with a fix.

Mine ran great for 700 miles then started cutting out like yours did, after a few shut down and re-starts it shut down and rolled over to the side of the road, by 900 miles it shut down 4 times and the wait to re-start got longer and longer. We found the wiring for the ignition switch antenna to the DESS unit to be bad, the DESS unit and ignition were replaced and I haven't had a problem since, I now have 3600 trouble free miles without shutting down unless I turn it off. What was happening to my spyder was the DESS was loosing communication with the key, if that occurs, the spyder will shut down after 10 minutes of loss communication just like you turned off the kill switch, there will be no errors generated when this occurs. While at the factory during the homecomming event I talked to the techs and they said that was one of the only things that can happen to the spyder without generating an error code. He also told me that the first 1000 units had the potential to have had the wiring damaged during assembly. Now this does not mean that it will happen to yours, I just wanted to give you a place to look if you cannot find the source of your problem.

I've also had weird engine cutoffs as well. Just yesterday I was driving and after shifting up the engine made a little chirp and cut off. I've also had it hesitate when opening the throttle. It sounds like it is misfiring or bogging when it happens.

Thanks for the information. I will keep a record of this ongoing thread to give to my mechanic if the problem continues to persist.
