We were lucky ..... Could have been a lot worse ....

Spent the day yesterday (with my wife and brother) at the NC Ridesafe program with the Raleigh NC PD motorcycle unit. A great day of refresher training and riding with the PoPo motorcycle officers. Good weather and a great day for riding.

They include 2 rides where they pair you up individually with a motorcycle officer and ride for 30 min on the first ride and then 1 hr on the second. After the ride, they evaluate your riding performance and give tips for safer riding(I went 60 in a 45 with a cop on my tail and didn't get a ticket !!!) ...

The main reason for day was to help my wife improve her riding skills on her new F3.

Unfortunately, 10 min into her second ride ( while trying to pay attention to the instructions she received in the classroom and not the road ) she ran off the road in a curve. 35 mph, down a small embankment and into the woods coming to rest against a 6"diameter cedar tree.

The Police Officers PANICKED !!!!

To my wife's credit, she stayed with the bike and kept it under control the whole way. After a few minuets, she got back on and was ready to ride.

End result, the "front mouth" at the top of the grill broke and 1 of the screw holes in the grill striped. The only other damage was some scuff marks at the bottom of the grill.

I ordered the "mouth" today, $99 and two weeks for delivery, a small price for some good lessons.

Glad to hear she is okay and got back on. You should check under the Spyder to be sure there was no frame damage. It doesn't take much to bend the frames on them.

Glad to hear also ok and she got right back on . When I took the Spyder course at Georgian College I found that even though I have been riding 2 wheeled stuff and snowmobiles my whole life , I was often distracted from paying attention to my driving trying to remember the things the instructors insisted we practice while they watched . Once I realized I was doing that I was able to find a happy medium and please the " powers that be" while handling the bike safely . A few in the course had "incidents" during maneuvers but as in your case no injuries and knowledge gained :2thumbs:

That NC Safe program is great. I took it last year in Columbus, NC.

Your wife must be mentally strong for getting right back on the bike after that experience. Good for her!:firstplace:

Lifted it up and took the front end all apart, some dirt and leaves were the only evidence anything happened. all back together and runs / tracks great.

She said this morning that she wants to do the course again soon......
