We get our Spyder RT-S Saturday

Spyder Couple

My wife and I bought a blue 2011 CanAm RT-S. SK Northwest had one still in crate so we have to wait till Saturday (may 7th) to pick it up. :shemademe_smilie:

My wife has blood clots in her legs and can't hold up her own bike much any more and we both love to ride, so we bought the spyder.
Since the spyder will be brand New is there anything we should really check out on it before riding it home? I figured we will be there at least 2 hours to learn how everything works.

We are looking at taking a long trip to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks in July. Does anyone have any advice on taking long trips with the spyder. We have never done trips longer then 2 hours either way. We will be pulling a trailer behind the spyder.

What do you pack for long trips? What tools do you take with you?

Thank you for your advice

Darrell

:welcome: and :congrats: on your new :spyder2:!!!

Real quick question, though, Darrell. I noticed that you bought your RT-S from SK Northwest. By chance, are located in the Portland/Vancouver Metro area? If so, my wife and I would be happy to get together with you with our two RT's (my RT-S and Kathy's RT-AC) for lunch, or whatever, and ":f_spider:chat". I have the RT-622 trailer and travel all the time. Feel free to give me a call at 503-866-2285.

:welcome: and :congrats: on your new RT..

S&K should have all the updates done - ask.. Be sure to spend some time in a large parking lot to get a feel for your new Spyder, & the listed exercises are worthwhile. Then a ride to Bend, or Seaside, will help you adjust to the RT's handling. IT WILL TAKE A COUPLE OF HUNDRED MILES TO ADJUST TO IT!!!

:agree: Figure on logging at least a couple of hundred miles in order to get comfortable... :congrats: on your new Ryde!
Packing for trips is such a personal matter that it's probably to just "go with your gut" and take what you think you'll need. With time the list will become better defined.

BTW, my wife & I are doing the Yellowstone - Teton trip in September. Trailering the Spyder there & spending 10 days riding the back roads, from a cabin in Yellowstone. We did glacier to Jasper, AB last year...

:welcome::congrats::agree:

Another member said something like this to folks just getting started with a Spyder...

Grip the Handlebars like you are holding a baby chick. This way you have a solid grip, but gentle at the same time.

I would add... Drive it like it is a car. Not a two wheeled bike. Those two tips will make your transition a very pleasurable one :ohyea::yes:

Michael, Yes we are getting at SK Northwest in Portland.
We live in Forest Grove. We would love to get together with you and Kathy.
My wife wrote down your number and we will be giving a call. :2thumbs:

Thank you everyone for your advice. It is very helpful.

We are excited to get our spyder tomorrow. I am going to be stopping at SK today on my way to work and see how they are doing.

I am also hoping the weekend is mainly dry and not as wet as the weather people are saying. Wife wants to go for ride on Mother's Day on the Spyder.

When you take trips what kinds of Tools do you take with you to work on the Spyder if something happens ?:doorag:

:welcome: Congratulations!!! :congrats: I am sure you are going to love your

:spyder2: Great to hear that you are in contact with another :spyder2: rider in

your area too! Have fun & ride safe! :2thumbs:

Your AAA Plus card is the only tool you'll need….

There is a tool kit under the stock seat tho… better look towards Tuesday for a dry ryde…. I highly recommend the back roads to the Canby Ferry ($1 to ride, you are on a bike), down to 99, then back towards I5. Stop at the Hill Top Cafe for a meal (my fav is the Razor Clam breakfast….), then over to Butteville, follow the road to Newberg, and over Chelatham Mountain home…

Well we are getting our :spyder:RT-s today. We will be at SK by 10:30am if anyone would like to meet us there. I will be riding the Spyder home if it isn't pouring rain. Cindy (wife) will be following in the SUV. She is worried about me driving it home, :lecturef_smilie: as she has read alot about how different it is from a 2 wheel but I feel if I take it easy I will be fine. :2thumbs:

Anyone want to meet at SK Northwest and ride with me? :doorag:

I figure we will be there for while getting the info on how things work.

We have always said we would never buy and Ipod,Iphone etc. Well because the Spyder is set up to work with an Ipod more then with our mp3 players we when out to Fryes and bought an Silver Ipod just for the Spyder. Cindy got a clear case for it and already has 600+ songs on it.

:congrats: So today's the big day! :2excited:
Hope you have some good weather for the trip home.
Post pics when you can and let us know how you like your new ryde!
When/if you head down our direction, let us know!

Miss Communication with Sk and bike is not ready. They were very nice and said it will be ready on wenesday. Because of hubbys work hours we won't be able to pick up till next Saturday. Darn it :(

Hey guys, :congrats:. I live in Newberg and just got my 2011 RTS SE5 at Spyderfest. Sorry about the miscommunication with SK but I don't think Sunday will be much of a ride day. The Canby trip sounds like a blast. I just had a conversation with Dragonrider this morning about getting a local ride together. Let me know if your interested. Enjoy your new ride.

Ride in comfort,

John

 we would love to do a get together and ride.

We were hoping that we would be able to meet other Spyder lovers and make some good friends in the area. I work swing shift so I am not really able to ride during the week but the weekends are mostly free for riding. Wife was hoping to ride for mother's day on the spyder.
We may take our 2 wheel bikes (that are for sale) and go for a ride tomorrow anyway.

I will be calling Sk on Tuesday (as they are closed Sunday and Monday) and make sure they are getting the bike ready. Today they said the order for the passenger push to talk button had not arrived yet. Hope it is all done by Saturday. They said it would all be done on Wednesday but because of work hours won't get there till Saturday. I really hope it is nice on next Saturday.
