• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

WASHING THE SPYDER

You can't use rain-x on the windsheild so is there anything else that works to bead water off?

I have been watching a product for about a year now, it is currently NOT available to the public. only info i have on it is what you can get google search it. product is called NeverWet. I have sent them my info so as to get some when it does become available to the public. I really want to try this stuff on my visor. I know it doesnt solve your problem now, but later on it may be a the way to go.

I have a question for those that go waterless since I'm thinking of switching that way. Do you spray your cleaner directly on the spyder to float the dirt, so to speak. My concern is that by not using water to loosen the dirt there is a possibility of scratching the paint as you rub the surface.

Dry cleaning is great but you have to be very careful not to scratch the plastic. I have always used a bucket with car wash detergent and a small towel to wash the bike. First rince with clear water from a garden hose with no nozzle, wash with the soap and rag and then rince again. Water will remove water soluble salts while some of the dry cleaning preparations are oil or silicon based. Up north where they turn the roads into pretzels every winter I would think that getting the salt off the bike would be more inportant that the dirt. I also only wash the bike on a warm sunny day to dry it out or go for a 30 min ride to air dry and heat up stuff to get the moisture out.

I would like to understand this better as well, bugs and dirt rubbed into a Black painted surface I would have thought would have "swirled" the finish badly? I don't think you will convert me (from water and a quality car soap) but I am curious?
:dontknow:

You spray it with a quick detailer or cleaner...it is not truly dry... It is just not using water.

I do spray the Lucas Slick Mist directly to the :spyder2: and yes I use it on the windshield and chrome too. I usually apply a spray directly onto a bug splatter or tougher spot so as to moisten it for a little harder scrubbing. Never had swirl marks or scratches. Before trading in the GS for my RTS I used the same cleaner on the Moonlight silver/Black and the black never had any problems.

Spray directly as you say, but the more important thing is using a good quality microfiber polishing cloth. No swirlies for me and I've had to get pretty aggressive removing some of the splatters, the bugs are more like small birds down here in TX.

Spray quick detailer on and let it soak for a few seconds...this will allow it to get under the bugs and junk and allow the microfiber to remove it from the surface without scratching or dragging it across the paint.

A flexible hose nozzle is great for gently controlling where the water goes ...

used this on my Goldwing windshield inside and out water ran rite off and this will take care of any small scratches you have

I tried washing mine like I do my cars but...
1 The pressure from the spray gets under my visor.
2 The foam makes it hard to breathe.
3 Those blowers at the end nearly tear me from the seat.

:roflblack:

So so now I use LaMontes Diamond spray, or multipurpose Pledge.

I use rain x on my windshield. And my helmets and have never had an issue. I have been using rain x on my side by side windshields for years and no issues.

And no where on my rain x does it say for plastic or not for plastic.

EDIT

I just saw this. So maybe make sure you get the plastic rain x if you want to use it.
