• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Was it changed or was it NOT??

THAT is the question of the evening. I went thru what I thought was a rather large PITA changing the oil on our Spydster. I ve got more torx screws scattered around than...

ANYWAY...the oil is REALLY REALLY BLACK. It has approx 3K miles on it. I had to add a full qt in those 3K miles.

This is the second oil change this Spydie has (supposedly) had. I m wondering of anyone here has had the same experience with their first change after the 600 mile change at the dealer. This oil even smelled bad, like old oil you would smell in some junk car that wasnt maintained properly.

One good thing: the magnetic drain plug in the engine block was practically clean. That made me feel all warm and fuzzy!:ohyea:

Its nice and squeaky clean now, with some 100% synthetic 10/40 motorcycle oil,I believe the brand name is Maxim(?).

Any thoughts??

TIA,eh??

It can't be proven, but my guess would be it was not changed or they gave your Spyder mama's used oil from the deep fryer. I changed my own oil for the second oil change. Had 5000 miles on the oil. Looking at it in the pan it was dark, but when I dipped my finger in it and let it drip off, it was gold to the light. If you changed your own now, you know it was done right.

Mine is averaging a quart every 3000 also seems to be the norm
I'm sure they changed your oil.
though it looks dark I agree with first post all the lubricating properties seem to still be there remember that's doing your transmission also :gaah::ani29:

Doubtful that 600 miles would make that much difference in the color of the oil. Mine looked pretty black too.

Most wet-clutch motorcycles will darken the oil much more than a dry clutch bike. Our oil was darker than average at 3K, too, Which was a bit surprising considering the Spyder's high oil volume and the dry sump system. Like you said, a clean drain plug magnet, and no shiny particles visible in the drained oil are the keys, as with all machines. I would not worry.

Thanks for all the reassurance. I was rather miffed. I never thought about the clutch and the tranny being lubed by the oil also.
