• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Warranty and "Farkles"?

I see that quite a number of people add to or swap out pieces and parts and accessories to their Spyders. It got me to wondering whether doing this affects the BRP warranty.

Note: I don't own a Spyder yet, but hope to soon. Among the things that I anticipate changing would be a) adding a driver backrest, b) adding footboards, and c) swapping out the windshield. Would any of these negatively affect the warranty?

Thanks!

This is a good question... that doesn't have a simple answer!
BRP Accessories will not affect a warranty... unless they are incorrectly installed by the consumer... and the mistakes made during installation are what cause the warranty claim to be started.

The Moss-Magnusen Act sort of says that for an aftermarket piece to affect the validity of a warrabnt: it have to be the source of the problem.
So if you add a Stebel horn, and your rear wheel is out of round: no problem!

You'll also find that issue as the source of ongoing jokes here on SpyderLovers.

It seems to me general consensus, per the law Bob cited, is it's not a problem.

:D...As long as the tassels that you've added to the ends of your handlebars, don't end up causing a misalignment of the front-end...

All of the above

It is an ongoing question everywhere a warranty is offered. If you modify the item and that modification causes a problem then your not covered for that problem. I'm sure few folks actually read the warranty and know what is covered and what is not. Many modifications can cause other problems not related to that mod but it has to be proven. I have not seen many of these problem during my time here and of the items you are planning to change I you will not have a problem.
But if you want an example...if you put a larger windshield on a moveable support and the support fails for whatever reason they would not cover the supports. Our vendors have quality tested items so you don't see this happen...relax....

The modifications you mentioned should not present a problem, but may incure additional labor that warranty will not cover if they need to be removed and reinstalled.

There are more reports being posted where owners have brought machines in for warranty work and BRP mandates the add ons must be removed or disabled for warranty work to be initiated. Items like this are typically electrical add ons and BRP can not be reasponsible for how an aftermarket item may interfere with the oem electrical system.

In some of those cases, the dealer refused to reconnect the aftermarket items, probably in fear of taking on full resposibility as BRP steps away if problems persist.

As mentioned above, an ongoing discussion point.

Have not heard to many issues where BRP invoked the warranty legalities over installed accessories--UNLESS--it was an obvious cause/effect situation.

I would say, install what you want and don't worry to much about issues with BRP.
