After trying to update my Zumo 220 to the new map set (2013.10) my unit froze. Spoke to Garmin support and they agreed to do an exchange. Received the new unit yesterday. Since there was a problem with the registration I had to call back to ensure my lifetime map subscription was tied to the new unit. Once that was squared away the nice service rep walked me through the update to be sure I was doing it right. (That download button can be tricky).
Guess what . . . . after my third call to customer support and the mandatory 30 minute wait on hold the same problem happens. Unit freezes trying to load maps. Now the nice service lady says . . . you weren't supposed to do the update, there's a problem with the 220. Well, the service rep told me to do it and walked me through the process.
Bottom line - - - this IS a problem with the Map set/software upgrade 2013.10 for the Zumo 220. They know it and have chosen to leave the update online even though it will brick your unit. Do not do the update - - - they tell me it will brick the 220, other devices appear to be ok.
They are shipping yet another replacement unit since they do not know when they will have a fix for this issue.
