Please DO NOT post Personal, ID, or Sensitive/unique id details about yourself &/or your vehicles on the Public Pages of the Forum
We have had a number of reports suggesting that Members here have been targeted after publishing Personal, ID, or Sensitive/unique vehicle id details on internet, possibly including the Forum &/or on any other Social Media Site for that matter!
Please be aware that ANYTHING you post on this or any other social media site is available for the whole World to see, so be a little discreet in what you share.
Not only should you NOT SHARE your full name, birth date, street address, &/or bank account details and passwords with the World; but you should also be careful with disclosing things like your Social Security Number, your phone number, your email address, even your holiday plans, and certainly your vehicle's VIN#'s, engine #'s, &/or Registration/License details, as any/all of that info can be 'stolen' and used to your disadvantage. Similarly with posts or Map pins that show or are too close to your actual address, especially if you add details about what other vehicles, tools, & other valuable & attractive items you might have to steal anywhere, and that's made worse if you tell others elsewhere on the public pages that you are going away this weekend/whenever - the criminals with interest in these things are very good at skimming that data from a range of posts then piecing it all together, even across a range of different sites, so it's best if you JUST DON'T POST THAT SORT OF INFO ANYWHERE!
If you feel you must share here, please use the Direct Message facility, but still be especially wary of sharing with Members you don't know, New Members/New Posters who are either new here &/or who have little history/posts on the Forum that might allow you some insight into their validity or otherwise. We do try very hard to confirm the validity of all members and weed out the dodgy types during the registration process, but we can't always identify &/or catch them all that way, and we have had instances where some of those dodgy types have eluded us for some time; and before they've posted enough for us to gauge their veracity & reject them, a very small number of these have turned out to be scammers, resulting in some members who haven't taken suitable precautions being caught out/losing money/goods.
Hence this warning to all to be very careful in sharing ANY of your Personal details, ID, or Sensitive/unique vehicle ID details on the Public Pages of the Forum, and calling on you all to be extra careful of sharing any of this type of info with others, especially with potential buyers/sellers, and be extra careful especially if they are new or relatively unknown members &/or posters with little posting history here to give you any idea about them. Any one member sharing this sort of info publicly not only risks themselves, but because the criminals who find one such record here will then spend more time targeting this site as a likely source of similar information, and they'll probably sell the info &/or invite all their compatriots to come search/hunt for targets here too; so YOU posting your info here not only risks YOUR exposure to scamming or theft, but it also increases the risk for all other Members too! As a result of all this, if/whenever we do find this sort of info posted here, it will be removed without notice.
Please take care, and don't divulge your personal contact, personal or vehicle/s identification, &/or banking details unnecessarily on this or any other social media site without due consideration of the risks that doing so may entail to you and other members! :shocked:
