• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Want a Spyder Bad

I really want a Spyder and I've really looked hard for someone to say something bad about them. can't find a thing. Really, are there any mechanical issues a potential owner should be aware of? Thanks in advance.

If I were you... I'd read each and every post made on this forum. Not only are these some of the nicest folks in the world, you'll get all kinds of good advice.

I wouldn't be afraid to buy one, but I would be less apt to buy the SE5 as there are problems with shifting on many out there.

Get the extended warranty.

i put 10000 miles on my spyder in less than 3 month (thats actual time i had the spyder in my possession as its been in the shop 50 days total) and i really can not imagine my life without spyder at this point.

my spyder has been in the shop 10 times already(it's in the shop today... again) for various reason from little annoying things to major(transmission) but even with all this problem, when i ryde it it puts me in this state of mind that nothing else really matters.

Welcome to SpyderLovers rollingscott. There have been some issues but nothing is really widespread. I have owned a basically trouble-free Spyder (nothing ever put mine in the shop for over a day) for about a year now and I would definitely buy one again.

Welcome...

The SE5 and SM5 are both great bikes...as of right now, the auto has a few glitches...regardless, they're both a lot of fun.

I have the SM5...all the same part positions as a motorcycle save for the lack of a right hand brake...

The SE5 doesn't have a clutch...meaning, it's got paddles like an Audi...this makes the riding experience easier, yet IMHO, more sterile.

The SE5 is more expensive due to the more complex ability to change gears without a clutch (consider like an auto)...

Get one, either one...you won't regret it...I'd go with the SM5 and put the money you save into modifications such as a hindle/yoshi/micron exhaust and some LED lights from NMN...while you're at it, get the mirror extensions form KewlMetal...if you have shoulders, you'll need them...

se5
i did not have any transmission problem until 2 weeks ago
i started to get check trans light and sometimes it would not go into gear
it just went away on its own basically. my dealer sent error code to brp but have not heard from them yet.

Yea, I've been hanging around this site reading as much info as possible. I REALLY want to add a Spyder to my garage, but I think I'm gonna hold off until next year. Two reasons: 1. I'm hoping some of the glitches I've been reading about will be ironed out, and 2. I'm expecting the stock market to get back on it's feet. Meanwhile, I'm on this site every day reading everything you guys (& gals) write, so keep the info coming! THANKS! :2thumbs:

There have been some glitches here and there but not with all spyders and doesnt appear to be wide spread. I have SE5 with just under 7000 trouble free miles.

Thats the same way I started out. I read everything on this site during the three month waiting time for my Spyder to be delivered. I gained a ton of knowledge before I had it sitting in the garage.

Laws of the Universe

Don't be afraid to get your new Spyder. As far as the "mechanical" problems remember this...... you can't have up without down, white without black, in without out, dark without light etc. I think you get the idea. The fun you will have will out-wiegh any problems.

Enjoy life with your new Spyder!
