There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Waiting to Hear Back

But are you using synthetic oil in your tires?
And what kind of helmet do you wear; when pumping them up to whatever pressure you use?

I use natural methane in my tires. And I wear my WWII steel helmet when filling them. :yikes: Tom :spyder:

Bleedin'eck Tom! :yikes: I hope you decrease the cold start pressure in your skull a little when you do that!! The tougher sidewalls of that helmet won't flex enough to absorb the shock loads of any escaped methane impact & you could end up with a squeaky voice!! :gaah: The more modern ballistic material lined helmets don't have that problem tho, so you can cinch them up as tight as you like without any risk of dribbling out your ears - just don't pull your parachute harness crutch straps that tight.... EVER!!

Pete I'm cheap. Didn't want to spend the $$ for the upgraded helmet. Now, if it were chromed? Hello honey, I need some more safety chrome. :roflblack: Tom :spyder:

The days of dealers requiring consumers to "service it here using our products to protect your warranty" are long gone.

AND.....regardless of what some half-assed dealer might try to tell you, the wheels/rims on Spyders are made to the CAR TIRE spec.

It's been discussed extensively in a LOT of other threads.

Dealers

When I bought my Spyder from my local dealer in Denver they put on any tires I wanted. When I bought my last Spyder from the Dealer 100 miles away, the local dealer would no longer put on anything but the OEM tires that I must purchase from them with the same line about BRP does not allow non OEM tires. I bought the Federal EVO's, took off the wheels and took just the wheels and the new tires to Discount tire and they mounted them with no problems.

Thank goodness that my local dealer will mount a car tire ( General Altimax in my case) with NO questions asked. Filling it to my desired pressure is another story.

I sent the following to BRP this morning, hopefully, my questions will be answered:pray:
I have been getting conflicting information concerning tires for my 2015 RT Ltd.. The dealer that I have been using for service and parts has told me that they were informed at the 10 year anniversary celebration that they could lose their franchise if they install aftermarket "car" tires on my Spyder. I have read in forums that there are dealers that will install tires other than the Kenda tires on Spyders that are brought to them and they were told at the anniversary celebration that they could install aftermarket tires on Spyders. So, my questions to you are these: what is the OFFICIAL position on mounting aftermarket/car tires on Spyders? Why is this your position? And I ask this because any tire that can be used on cars HAS to meet Department of Transportation requirements on construction, etc.. The wheels that are used on Spyders are "J" wheels, meaning that the construction of these wheels allows for car tires to be mounted, NOT motorcycle tires.
I am asking for clarification on these issues because I am nearing the end of my factory warranty and am considering a B.E.S.T. extended warranty and I want to be sure that using a better quality tire on my vehicle for my peace of mind and safety will not void that extended warranty. Also, would my dealer be risking his franchise by putting aftermarket/car tires on my vehicle?

Surprisingly, I did receive a reply to my email. Not unsurprisingly, it was jibberish and did not answer ANY of my questions. Here it is:

Good day Mr. Rizzo,

Thank you for taking the time to contact BRP.

We only recommend using our authorized parts and accessories.

Should you have any other questions or comments, do nothesitate to reach us by replying to this email or call us at T + 888.272.9222.

I will definitely be replying. If this stooge cannot answer my questions, I will pursue it up to his supervisor. Will keep you posted.

why do we have to be public about this it's been discussed a thousand times here just keep everything on the down low put a high quality car tire on and enjoy the huge benefits including greatly improved tread life

I'm glad my local certified CanAm Spyder dealer recommends and installs CAR tires. Get better cost and longer live from rear General tire. I bought it online, just took off rim and took to dealer.

Why are you making such a fuss over this. He just said they recommend using BRP parts and service. Said nothing about tires or warranty. Make up your own mind and move on with your life. Making mountains out of molehills is very destructive to ones sanity and piece of mind. Cut the umbilical cord and move on from the "Mother Ship". Life is too short to take on such imagined battles which you will never get a straight answer. Most of us have been their before and honestly very few really care.

Pick a tire you like and move on. You do not need approval from us or the "Mothership". There must be 10,000 posts on this subject with 5000 different opinions. If you need reassurance you can read all of these. If you are expecting the right answer here you will only get terribly confused and drive yourself to "drinking " trying to come up with the "right" answer. There simply is no such thing as the right answer. It's what's right for you. Get it?

Oh, I get it and I'm not doing this to get approval from anyone or any company. I just want to get at the truth and if you're not interested in what I'm doing, either don't read this thread anymore or "unfollow" me. I've picked tires that I like and had them installed (at Mr. Tire). I don't need BRP's blessing, I would just like for my dealer to install the rear tire without placing his business in jeopardy.

Good enough, but the truth these days is not always the same. Depending on your view point, the truth for some is not the truth for others.
:D

When and if you ever find "the truth" please send me a memo. I have been searching for it all my life.

Update

I wrote back to BRP, my message and the "response" follow. What I found most interesting was the fact that dealerships are owned, not franchised.

Jay,

While I do appreciate that you got back to me, I couldn't help but notice that you did not answer even one of my questions. If you don't know the answers to my questions, perhaps you could do a little research to find the answers OR direct me to your supervisor so that I can ask him for answers to my questions. I am only trying to get information that will assist me in clearing up confusing information that I have gotten from various sources.

It would be comforting to know that BRP appreciates its customers enough to hear what they have to say and respond to honest questions for information.

Hoping to hear from you soon.

Good day Mr. Rizzo,

We do not recommend using aftermarket or car tires on your unit. We recommend using authorized BRP parts only. As for the dealership, they are independently owned and not franchised. We do not have information as to what reasons a dealer would no longer be considered part of BRPs dealership network.
