There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Well, job offer fell through... I'm bored... House is like a jail cell... Might as well kick off my Gatlinburg trip early via some detours.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=matthews,+nc&daddr=columbus,+oh+to:utica,+ny+to:Poughkeepsie,+NY+to:Washington,+DC+to:Gatlinburg,+TN+to:Matthews,+NC&hl=en&geocode=FQ3XFwIdIEEw-ymRuAuS8CNUiDGAR5je9xMWBw%3BFVjCYQId9okN-ylx3pC5wYk4iDEztbHP-GYy5A%3BFeeqkQIdaAqE-ykpdmo1UTfZiTGG_O0YJjYaEQ%3BFRNMfAIdNg6Y-yk7u-ArZD7diTFJ8yD7612oXg%3BFQh-UQIdsoRo-ylb5PZa3sa3iTEqXYjUIkVSwg%3BFdP0IAIdbLwF-ymJpQjL6lNZiDGoebd-rtexSg%3BFQ3XFwIdIEEw-ymRuAuS8CNUiDGAR5je9xMWBw&mra=ls&sll=39.13006,-78.706055&sspn=14.471134,43.022461&ie=UTF8&ll=37.247821,-78.354492&spn=7.430518,21.51123&z=6

Now... That is the straight approach... But I'm going to probably chew up part of the Blue Ridge Parkway, get lost for a day in West Virginia... Stop off near Lake Ontario.... Stop and visit friends and family in Utica, ny and get my rear tire changed... Ride the Adirondacks for a day or two and then head out to Albany, then down towards NYC and pit stop in DC... I may pit stop at home base in Charlotte for a day or 2 before running out to Gartlinburg. Between the back roads and diversions I'm shooting for perhaps 3500 miles this trip. Will take my time, and spend a copious amount of that time in Utica.

Any Utica/Central NY Spyderlovers on here?

Sorry that the job fell through but it sounds like a great ride. See you at the BBQ.

Such is life! It was a job I really wanted back at my former employer... so I'm kinda bummed and kinda pissed but not overly so.

I told my neighbor yesterday and the first question he asked is if I was going to take a trip on the Spyder to sulk. LOL... I guess they can see the therapeutic effect the Spyder has on me. I don't know what that says... ;)

I went across the street to the other neighbors to tell them I was leaving and to watch the house and keep an eye out for my wife. They knew I was taking off as they've been watching me prep the Spyder for the last week or so - tupperware everywhere.

Anyway. Wouldn't mind meeting some SpyderLovers here and there... May make a separate post for that.

Pull out most likely tomorrow bright and early.

Are you sure you're not showing up to the interview 'step brothers' style and purposely throwing it so you can take more trips??? :roflblack:

Sorry about the job--- I'm sure you'd gladly give up the SITS trip to be gainfully employed again.

Ride safe and we'll see you in TN.....

Heh... No!

With baby on the way and some separate issues related to that, I'd rather have the job and medical. :yikes:

Otherwise we are doing mostly fine and I consider myself very fortunate to be able to ramble around from time to time on the Spyder. Many people in my position can't afford to still enjoy their toys after being laid off.

So this is the last big trip of the year seeing as we are delivering the baby at between 28 and 32 weeks due to some issues in the womb.

It will be good to see everyone again.:D

Hope all goes well with baby.... see ya in the smokies!

Bummer about the job, but :congrats: on the baby!
Be safe on your journey, hope to see you at SitS.
SitS begins my 2 week vacation, and I am tempted to run the Blue Ridge Parkway after SitS, so I'll have to catch up w/ you in Gatlinburg and get some feedback from your trip.:doorag:

Hi WackyDan;
I am from Fulton - 30 miles from Syracuse NY. Let me know when you are here and will try to meet up for a ryde. Ph. # 315 593-1340.

Read a thread a couple of days ago by someone that is going to Lake Placid 8/13 - 8/11. Might want to look that up. Was from Canada if I remember correctly.

WackyDan,

:congrats: on your baby. Hope to meet you at the BBQ. I may be the one ryding the Honda ST1300. I haven't decided which one to ryde yet. I did the Dragon last year on the Spyder. I would like to give it a shot on my ST this year.

Dude that's a beautiful bike! I think I'd take the ST!! Just be safe man. I'm editing 'cause I had the wrong guy with a baby on the way!! Dooh! But Dan, congrats on the baby. and you will be working again. Now, nxtYguy, I know this is a Spyder site, but man, that ST is a stunner! I'd take that one. My lust for 2 wheels again is starting to show...

This was the ride today. There are a lot of roads I would like to have taken instead, but I wanted to make sure I get within 200 miles of North Columbus, OH tonight. Still a nice ride. Lots of old occupied and abandoned farm houses, and a couple sections twisties and a ton of fast sweepers throughout WV and KY... Ran into some rain showers but nothing bad enough to worry about breaking out rain gear. Now I'm in a hotel enjoying myself.

I'm just going to keep editing this as I go.. Leg out on Sunday will probably be the most interesting of this trip... Columbus, OH to Wolcott, NY. Going to take as many back roads as feasible. Haven't really decided the legs I'm going to take as of yet. Just need to be able to do all 500+ miles before dark... Which can be hard to do when you are zig zagging all day.

Wolcott NY is just down the road from Fair Haven NY. Nice state park there. Great to watch the sunset & do the pier if you get the chance.
