• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. VSS triggers at start if I forget to shift to neutral before shutting down - normal?

Is this normal? It happens pretty consistently since I purchased it new in May of 2024. I always chalk it up to forgetting to shut down properly so I turn it off and start it up again and the problem clears. I was doing some searching here on the forum and every VSS issue I have seen was a symptom of a bigger problem so I'm just asking to be sure.

1st place to start when issues come up with this and these things. Purchased in May '24, did you replace the cheap Chinese battery yet? Even if has been charged up, and or running regularly, the battery just doesn't have good cranking amps and will make issues pop up. Its just cheaply made and doesn't last long. You'll do yourself a favor and replace with new Yuasa

^^^^^^^yeah, what he said.^^^^^^

By the way, not shutting it down "properly", as you put it. There's no such thing. The Spyder is designed to be shutdown, and restarted, if it is not in Neutral.

Ok, I'm going to chalk it up to crap battery then.

Looking Yuasa batteries up, the Yuasa battery selector only goes up to 2022 on can-am.

The recommended battery for the 2022 Can-Am Spyder F3/s is YTX24HL-BS but Walmart, Amazon, and Cycle Gear are whining at me that it won't fit. What's really real?

That's the one, BS is bottle supplied (verified on Lamonster's website). You will have to add acid, let it sit, then charge on a low 1 or 2-amp charge. All 1330 engines take the same battery. You can also open the battery compartment and look at the Chinese battery #. There are also Lithium batteries, but I'm not a fan of them. They have a harder time starting in cold weather, you have to let them warm up.

My 2022 S2S always showed VSS on start. Replaced the battery and VSS vanished. I shut down with bike in first gear. No problem.

In my opinion you see the VSS fault when you are not in neutral because the Spyder has to shift to neutral before it starts. The small amount of energy it uses to shift into neutral is enough, on top of the VERY weak Chinese battery in your Spyder, to trigger VSS. I would see it on my '22 at various times after it had sat for awhile. Personally I always shift to neutral on shut down so I don't have to apply the brake at start up. But in any case, your problem is almost for sure that battery. I have no idea what BRP was thinking but it was a very bad manufacturing decision to go that route. I replaced my battery with a lithium ion Noco battery I bought from LaMonster. All of my vehicles run lithium ion. You can get them at Amazon but I wanted to support the site owner. You will not believe how well your Spyder turns over after battery replacement and you will not see the VSS again.
