• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

VSS - TESTER

still some owners here (like stealth11) think - the lots of electronic in our spyder is something ..senseless..

started with my wife to a tour , and forgot to push the "start"-button on my gps system - tried it with my glove on - didn`t work right..
in the meantime the car in front of us stopped abrupt because of a crosswalk - so me and the VSS !! made two 90degree sidesteps .. with a lot of squeaking (could pass the car )
absolute no chance if we would have the same situation with our BMW-RS
(and i think also not with a car ..)

so also if i needed it once in 12.000 mls - i would have ordered and paid for a system like that (one strong reason for buying a spyder)

would be intresting how many VSS-Testers are here (maybe they get a button on there avatar ??

I am also a VSS Tester.

So far it works better than I do. Though unhappy at first, I am glad I have it not.

Wish I could tweek it just a bit but would probably get myself into trouble if I did.

worth it

Chris, I think it works a lot more (to an advantage) than people realize. I think you would have to ride a Spyder without it to see and feel the handling differences.

I have had two major cases of VSS intervention/activity where I KNOW I would have not been able to maintain control on my BMW or given my Spyder riding experience and handling expectations) on a non-VSS Spyder. Like you, I was truly surprised when the Spyder stayed "under control" and performed/assisted the maneuvers.

The first was when a pickup truck in front of me lost its spare wheel going over some railroad tracks at around 45 mph. I was on the hump of the tracks when I started avoidance maneuvers - there was a car (too close) behind me for me to just stop. The car hit the tire and suffered a lot of damage.

The second was coming around a sharp bend in a two lane (each direction) road and finding about a dozen large fireplace logs in the lanes. No car behind me, but one next to me. That took lots of brakes and taking the Spyder onto the shoulder and then off road to avoid the logs and the car that lost control when trying to avoid the logs, but still hit them.

I have had one negative experience with the VSS - lets just say, as BRP warns, NEVER apply the Parking Brake when you are riding.

In the first couple of months of riding, I noticed the VSS coming on a couple of times in what were less dramatic events - going too fast on sharp turns, gravel roads, stuff like that. I don't remember having noticed it in the last few months, but I am very glad it is there.

VSS

The more I ride with VSS, the more I DON"T want to ride WITHOUT it!:ohyea:

The more I ride with it, the more it becomes something in the background.:ohyea::ohyea:

The more I ride with it, the more times it saves my butt (Yeah, I tested it).:yikes::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

It seems to me that it was someone on this board that decided go as fast as they could thru miles worth of twisties and never touched the brakes.

He just let the VSS do all of his braking. :yikes:

When I rode my Spyder on The Dragon, the VSS on the dash was flashing almost constantly. At first it upset me a little, as I figured I could go much faster than I actually was without any problems. Truth of the matter be told, it was probably saving my bacon the entire time and I just didn't realize it. ;)
