• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

video- Steering issue

My dealer said the power steering does not fully engage untill the spyder is up and rolling.
It would be possible for the DPS to be programmed this way, but it simply isn't the case. If the steering is working, the Spyder wheels turn much more easily after the engine is started, but the Spyder is not moving. If yours does not do this, there is something amuck in your DPS. Several owners found they had none at all. Perhaps the dealer had one of those, and doesn't know the difference.

Pretty sure I still have an issue with my steering. If I'm in my garage on the concrete it turns fine but when I get out on the asphalt it's pretty much locked up. If I move at all it's fine, a little hard to turn but not bad.

This is what it was doing in Daytona too and at that time I was able to check mine side by side with another Spyder that did turn easy on the same pavement. At this point I'm not sure if I should have it looked at or not. :dontknow:

Well mines always steered that way and I pretty much figured it's normal. Also, I rarely try to steer the wheels on ANY of my vehicles when standing still. I believe that steering without the vehicle moving at least a bit puts a lot of strain on steering parts.;)

Y'know what might be interesting to find out is to somehow hook up an ammeter to the DPS and check the readings on various surfaces. Also increasing and reducing tire pressures (for testing purposes) should make a significant difference.

THAT IS THE ONE! I was at school tonight sitting in class being bored and I was reading the news on my phone and saw it. I immediately texted HDX at home and he went online to look at it. We will be in line to play with it on November 6th. Problem is, to get out of our Sprint contract, they want $250 :cus: but we hate our phones - they aren't so smart and take forever to load websites and Pandora stinks on them (volume problem w/ headphones) and very little applications for downloading so this might be worth it.

We played w/ the IPhone - that was fun too.

If you have to stay with Sprint you might want to look into the Palm Pre.

I just switched from Sprint to ATT -- mainly for the iphone - but I didn't have a contract with Sprint.

I LOVE the iphone --- HATE the ATT coverage up here in MI - had to install a booster at home to get good service inside at home. Sprint/Nextel pretty much rules in Michigan as far as coverage.

I have to agree about steering while sitting still - but it seems like an easy 'test'. Someone, somewhere told me not to do it much with the Spyder - but I can't remember who or where.

Just went for a ride and noticed that on rough parking-lot asphalt it was really a bear to turn unless rolling a bit. Not very bad at all when stopped at a light - but certainly not as easy as on the smooth painted garage floor.

I've noticed for some time that parking lots (which are rougher than roads) are the hardest surface to turn on - but they get MUCH easier if it's raining out.

Would be nice to hear from BRP just what we should expect on various surfaces???

We looked at the Pre - but I didn't like texting on it - not that I do it much but I'm the typo queen when it comes to texts and it made it harder for me w/ that phone. So far we liked the Hero but I think Verizon might win us over after watching that video. We'll go try it out. iphone was fun too - not a lot of coverage w/ AT&T though. In CT it's good but traveling - I looked at the map, sort of spotty. Did you have good service while in TN?

Mine has been like this also since I got it. I always thought this was power assisted steering not full power steering. That dps can't be robust enough to be a full power steering.
I believe this is the same power assist they have on some of their 4 wheelers. Does anybody have one (4 wheeler)they can test to see if it can turn the wheels when not moving and on what surface? I think we might be expecting to much from the unit.
As to the people that have the problems when moving thats a completely different story and that must be addressed. IMHO:sour:

I was still on Sprint while in TN --- and the signal was great. I really think Apply made a big mistake by going exclusive with AT&T --- but within a few years you'll be able to get various versions of the i-phone for just about all providers-- including Sprint.

I don't text much either -didn't really try it on the Pre - but I went with the i-phone because of all the apps you can get.

It stands to reason that a 4 wheeler all terrain vehicle would require a robust power steering unit. Riding off road through deep sand, mud etc. offers a lot of resistance to turning the bars. It would be harder to steer than a vehicle used on paved roadways.

:agree: I think Apple made a huge mistake! I get great reception with Sprint but whenever we call them about something, we seem to get the run around and half the time I end up on the phone with someone overseas who I can't understand. Not that Verizon or any of the carriers will be better but at least I'd get a better phone out of it. Like the iphone but I just don't want to go to AT&T - can't stand our landline service so why would I want a cell phone with them.

I have been happy that everyone at AT&T I spoke to on the phone was in the US and spoke perfect ENGLISH.

Land line?? What the heck is that??? :roflblack:
(Have not had a land line for like 10 years now).

Back to the steering issue.

As of late I noticed that when starting up and rolling a few feet and I turn sharply to right or left I hear a clicking/pop sound.

also when I stop at a stop sign and make a right or left turn , about half way into the turn I get the same click/pop and a little jerk.

I don't recall as ever having this issue prior to the update fix ( in TN ), but I didn't notice it until a few days ago.

Any suggestions, see dealer (duh) etc.

Forrest, mine is doing the same thing and also reacts just like the Lamont video of his steering. I haven't had the 2nd update yet, but going in Saturday to have it done and checked out. :dontknow:

Juice

We are talking about getting rid of the land line - I have to do some research on an "e fax" because we use our fax alot and that requires a land line.

Wow, I can't remember when I spoke to an american citizen on a customer service call.
