• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

vibrations?????

Copperhead

New member
Just in from a great all day run on Copperhead, have developed a very noticable fine vibration in the drivers foot pegs gear shifter and brake lever, have been told by 2 wheel riders it is the nature of the V twin. Is there any thing I can do? Should I be heading to the dealer? I would appreciate any suggestions

Thanks

A bar snake from www.barsnake.com, some bar end weights (available for www.manicsalamander.com) and possibly some Grip Puppies or changing to gel grips should take care of the vibration in the bars. There are also covers available for the levers from a couple of sources but I can't remember the websites right now. One called Lever skins is a hard rubber and the other is a soft foam. The rest is a live with it situation if you are riding a V twin. Ryde Safe and Enjoy:thumbup:

I had i few bikes with twin engine (moto guzzi, bmw....). All of them produce vibrations and i think that this is normal for v-twiners.... best regards from Slovenija

Thank you

Thanks for the links and info, Some of my problem is gone due to a belt alignment issue, The rest I will attempt to fix with your suggestions

On my Yamaha FZ1, I filled my handlebar with buckshot and added heavier bar ends-significantly reduced vibration. As others have stated, Motorcyle engines do vibrate quite a bit, even my inline four.

The 2009 spyder Accessory book has: billet Anti-vibe handlebar kits. Pg#35 / pr $99.99 pn 21940011S

The way BRP come to the plate with parts, this will not make this available till probably 2010, its a bit like the new Windshield that will not be available till late 2009, they really do not have their act together with this demanding market, don't bank on getting this anytime soon from BRP......

Make sure the wheel weights are still there, there a peel and stick setup.Noticed a vibration in my spyder first time out and mentioned it to the dealer, weights were missing on one rim.Had both front wheels rebalanced and things were better. The wheel with the weight still on it was off a little as well.Any one tried filling their bars with spray foam?

I noticed a vibration starting at 4600rpm and at its worst at 5000rpm and died of around 5400rpm in 4th or 5th gear It feels the most in the driver pegs and moves up to the seat. Dealer felt it but couldn't explain it.I've had numerous V-twins over the past 30 or 40 years and this is new to me.

I also feel allot more vibration in Spyder foot pegs than I do with my Motorcycle. My motorcycle was about the same level of vibration until I found a solution from other users-got to love the power of the internet.

After several FZ1 owner forum members had success with the following approach, I tried it and it worked:

Slightly loosen the engine bolts to frame and started bike - let it idle for ten seconds turn off and re-tightened bolts. Greatly reduced vibration in foot pegs.

I don't know enough about the Spyder yet, nor have I read that anyone has tried this so I'll wait and hope that some innovative person comes up with a solution or I'll just live with it.

I seem to have a bit more vibration or "growl" from the engine in that range as well during hard accelleration. Might be the nature of the beast....??????

I believe it's the belt harmonics. You can change the tension and the "vibration" moves along the rpm scale.

Wow, I get quite a kick out of this thread.

I don't mean to offend anyone but this is hilarious.

If you want to feel vibrations just jump on my KLR650 thumper. It will make you appreciate the smoothness of the Spyder.

:D:cheers::D
