There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Vibration

Just me again... :opps:
The Cruise Contol Switch on my 2014 seems to be able to "rock a little bit"; giving the feeling that it's being moved... when it actually isn't! :shocked:
If you have a chance; try to notice if that's the case with yours.
The solution for me: make sure that my thumb is as low on the switch as possible; pushing on the BASE of it! :thumbup:
Thanks for the info. I will givethat a try tomorrow.

This forum is an example of some of the best "I can help" I've seen. I have only been a member for two weeks, and have learned more about my 2010 RSS in the two weeks than trying to figure out stuff on my own. Now if there was a forum for the rest of the world issues we would be in great shape.

Vibrations

My first time posting here, but been lurking and learning about our new bike, 2014 RT-LTD.
We was able to make our first long ride this weekend (445 mi.) and an issue has showed up. When the bike get to about 68 mph and above we have a vibration when I apply throttle, when I let off it goes away. the faster we go the more pronounced the vibration becomes. My uneducated guess is the belt is vibrating at highway speeds but not sure. Any and all ideas are appreciated, thanks in advance, Kent.

Had same problem at the same speed on my 2014 RT LTD. Smooth Spyder Belt Tensioner solved problem.

I had my 2014 RT lazer aligned and I could feel a difference. I had Ron's bar installed and could feel a difference in the turns, they felt much smoother.
I ordered a belt tensioner yesterday and will install it right away because I have a 1500 mile trip coming up in 2 weeks. From what I read and studied I think that is the best way to go.
I'm fussy with handling and want to get the handling as perfect as possible and I think come a couple days from now I should have it about as perfect as I can get it. The parts were not over expensive. I think I spent about $750 to do all 3 operations.
I love the way my bike handles and I think the belt tensioner will be the last thing I will do to get rid of a light vibration that is not really bothersome but slightly noticeable.

I'm a "creeper" :shocked:
If I DON'T set the cruise control; within 10 miles, I'll be going 20 mph over the limit.... and looking for more!:yikes:
I use mine ALL of the time! :D
I have to use mine around town or I will be getting papered by the local LEO fellows and that would be embarrassing as most of them are my friends and I work on their cars!!:yikes:

I also have the belt vib around 70, mostly when climbing hills on the Interstate....I can lower or raise my speed some and it goes away. My belt tension is fine so I figure it is just part of the Spyder...

Of possible interest...I took BR1 in for his 14K checkup and my outstanding tech noticed a wear spot in the middle of my belt. Very small but he said he thought a rock was stuck in my sprocket....he looked and a small rock stuck in the sprocket with road tar was there...removed and all is well.

Many don't mention an unsatisfactory dealer, not wanting to cause trouble. I have a great dealer...good pricing and great service department... Coyote Powersports, Boerne, TX. Need a Spyder, Call Troy Chakalis (owner) 210-606-8788 and tell him I sent you. (I have no interest in this fine store other than to tell my friends they are good)

:spyder2:

Being as how we have less than 1000 mi. on the bike, we have an apt. with the dealer for next Friday. I'll see what he has to say and go from there. I would like to get the bike Lazer Aligned, but there isn't anyone locally that does it yet. The sway bar and belt tensioner are on my list of things I would like to do, but I have other needs also. All it takes is cash right?????????????:yes:

I'll keep everyone posted on what the Dealer tells me, Have a great weekend everyone, be safe and have fun, Kent.

As has been said the long belt is the reason for the vibration. It runs smooth most of the time but it's so close to going into vibration state that it doesn't take much to set it off. Tightening it helps but I'm not sure you could ever get the belt tight enough to not be prone to vibration at some speed without having it so tight it would damage the motor and wheel shaft bearings. The belt tensioner isn't so much a tensioner as it is a device to shorten the distance between pulley centers, thus reducing the length of free belt span. I have the tensioner and the belt good and tight at spec and still get some vibration at 80 mph +. I think the tendency to vibrate can at times be so strong the tensioner won't prevent it.

What is needed is a good video of what is really happening down there at various speeds with and without the tensioner. Finless did one without tensioner but I don't recall if he has one with the tensioner.

I have that same vibration, but around 74 to 78. My belt is aligned and at the correct tension. I am assuming that it is due to the belt harmonics at that speed and I am just living with it since I am seldom at that speed.

An up-date;
Took the Spyder in with a list of issues I was having besides the vibration and get a call about an hour later.............need to replace the ignition switch and will take aprox. 10-15 days! Grrrrrr :mad:
Oh well at least BRP is taking care of it.
Ride safe all, Kent.

To follow up;

We got the back back from the dealership and they checked the belt tension as well as clearance to the sprocket. They took it for a ride and smelled "Rubber" burning, which I had also mentioned to them. So, they adjusted the belt to gain about 4 mm clearance to the sprocket flange and...walla, no more vibration!!!! :clap: We are once again Happy :spyder2: Ryders!

So far we love our dealership, R & S Powersports in Albuquerque, NM.
