• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

VIBRATION!!!!

Since im trying to get all the info i can about the spyder here comes the question;
Is it normal for the engine to vibrate that much?
i noticed that around 5k rpm and above it vibrates a bunch, and it feels like the vibration reververates thru the entire frame, my dealer tells me that is normal but i just want to make sure, since this great forum is the best source of information, i just had to ask...

Gear.....

When you say vibration at 5K, what gear are you in...?...or is typical of each gear.
If I try to hard accelerate with a tall gear like 5th at about 50.......no, he doesn't like it so I've learned that at fifty I'm cruising in fourth.
I've also seen somewhere on this site that there appears to be a great increase in overall efficiency at about 6K.
See what that does.

If you are talking about a 2010 RT, many of them had a problem with the "anti-vibration" rods, where the nuts contacted the frame brackets, increasing vibrations significantly around 5,000 rpm. This can be corrected by a good dealer.

Im in trouble then, no good dealer around here, mine is an 09, the vibration is in all gears and it starts around 5k rpm, it feels like im riding my polaris 250, it starts in the engine and as the revs go higher it goes thru the entire spyder, like i said the dealer tells me that is just the nature of the beast.

Only the 2010 RT had the problem with the torque rods. Yours is something else. All V-twins vibrate. I'd have to ride yours to see if it was abnormal. Improper belt tension can cause noticeable vibration in some rpm ranges. There is also a typical vibration in most Spyders around 4,500 rpm. Hard to say whether yours was "normal" or not. Ride the dealer's demo to compare. If it is not abnormal, anti-vibration weights in the handlebar ends may help.

Feeling it in the footpegs?

It could be belt slap as noted in many other threads! It feels like a harmonic vibration mostly in the footpegs? Mine does it mostly at 5000 and 5500 Rpms. I only really notice it in 5th gear at highway speeds.

There is a belt tensioner http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?25110-New-Vendor-for-Belt-Tensioners that reportedly resolves the issue? There is one for both RS and RT. I have not done this yet but I am considering it.

harmonic balancer

Well you might check the harmonic balance on the end of the front drive, mine was never installed, got it fixed poof no vibration.

THATS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE!!!!!!!!

Mexican, I also had a vibration, which came and went around 4,500-5,000 rpms. I had my oil/filters changed last week and the tech said "I adjusted your belt tension and I also did ....etc." My vibs were decreased 90% when I left the dealer. He also said he "checks" the belt at 600 miles but it does not "brake in" until 3,000 miles and then he can adjust it much better. I have 3,750 on BR1 now. Runs like a hose with very little vibs at any rpm.

I also had my belt tension adjusted at the dealer. They said when I brought it in it was in the 250 range, which is reallly low. They upped it to 625 which is the old higher spec, I think. The current spec is in the 400_500 range, I think. These quoted spec numbers could be wrong I m going from memory of other threads and conversations with the dealer.

it helped a LOT but not totally solved.

I did the fix myself. Very easy if you have a die grinder. Took only 45 min. Dealer wanted me to leave it. But couldn't give me a time or date when it will finished. The hardest part was putting the bike up on the ramps, removing the wire mesh that protects the oil cooler, the plastic splash guard under side. The grinding only took 10 minutes. Thats the way it's done if you want to do it yourself. I forgot. It's on the left side of the bike behind the oil resever. Can't really see it until the splash guard is removed Crawl under the bike and look up and you'll see where the nut is resting on the frame.

I bet you guys that my dealer don't even know about the belt adjustments, the mechanic used to work at a small used bike shop, it closed down about a year ago, now he runs the show at Honda of tulsa, did i mention he is about 20 and is covered with tatoos??:yikes:

Me again.....

My vibration doesn't feel like that...2011 RS SM with just 3K on the gauge.
I went out this evening and on a nice open empty road went to minimal load in fourth and 5K RPM.
I eased into the throttle and it felt like it was kissing a rev limiter until about 5500 when it really got bad but then went pretty at just short of 6K....I let it run to about 6500 to change into fifth. No load again in fifth and the same symptoms re-presented themselves.
I have read on some forum that the fuel mapping may be adrift.
My question is can the Techie adjust the fuel mapping.
I'm due for a 3K mileage service so I think I should ask him to check the belt tension to the new specs and check the plug specs too 'cos I read somewhere BRP suggest a grade hotter for the RS....am I right here...?

Love this site...I've learned more from you folk than any manual.
I, too, prefer to speak to my guru with an informed approach and I feel I and Spyder are better served for it.
