There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. OK wanted to take a poll on who has this issue on RT Spyders ONLY not RS.

Vibration around 5,000 RPMs

going to see if:

1. Yes you have it still
2. Yes you HAD it and it was fixed by dealer
3. No I don't have it no problems
4. I have a vibration but its not related to RPM it happens all the time

I find vibration (shake) below 5000 rpm but think it comes from the drive belt as it seems to smoothin out over 5000 rpm. I try not to lug the engine as it runs better above 4500 or more. I never put it into 5th untill I'm over 50 mph closer to 60 mph.

I have a vibration around 55 to 65 MPH an going up hill, where is the engine isolation strut located and how can i locate it or should i say what body parts to take off to locate it.

THANKS

I have a vibration (high frequency) between about 4200 rpm and 5500 rpm. I wouldn't call it a problem or an issue. There are lots of moving parts in a mechanical system like the Spyder. Sympathetic and harmonic vibrations are difficult to eliminate. I know it's there, so I just work around it.

I've been keeping up on this and I'm just not sure if I have what you are asking. :ani29:

Ok try this. get on an open stretch of highway. get fast enough to shift into 5th gear and keep it at around 3,500 RPM and then start adding throttle. Around 4,500 to 5,000 RPM you will feel the engine run rougher or a vibration that you can feel maybe in the handlebars or in the foot pegs. keep accelerating to 6,000 rpms it should smooth out again above 6,000 or 6,500 RPMs.

let off throttle some and when at 3,500 RPM add throttle to maintain 3,500 RPM it should be smooth and roll on at 4,500 to 5,000 RPMish it should come back and go away after you get say above 6,000 RPM.

just make sure there is no one behind you when you roll off the throttle to 3,500 RPM again...

My vibration seems to be dependent on engine pull or complete lack of. I'v felt it at anywhere above 65 mph to 90 mph while in 5th gear. Comes and goes and can be changed if I apply throttle or sometimes back off. I've always thought it was related to the belt drive. Feel it in the foot pegs mostly. NEVER have it in for service without asking them to chack belt tension nut I'm sure they don't have a vibration meter to properly set the tension. I'm about ready to shop around for a dealer who has the proper equipment to set the belt tension. (9,000 miles and climbing)

Look at your RPM when this happens in 5th gear. my guess is you are around + or - 5,000 RPMs and have the throttle on (I.E. not coasting or decelerating).

Feel it at 4800rpm through 5200rpm... :gaah:

Only in Trailer Mode w/ trailer, wife and gear. Change the Mode setting and it goes away. Dealer will be looking at it while DPS is getting replaced.

was reading the article on the RT in the August ed of Canadian Biker (have a friend north of the boarder who sent it to me) :doorag:

anyway they mention :shocked::

"as there was a period of bogging and vibration between 5,250 and 6,000 rpm..." "Factory reps told us that early production units such as ours were experiencing "mapping" issues in that zone, which reportedly have since been addressed."

tech said that he felt it on my unit and their demo unit.

checked and its not rubbing the damper and the frame.

i think that this may be related to my previous post about the mapping issue.

i think sopher said that he had his go away when he put the ram air tube in his RTS.

maybe the RTS are running rich in the fuel map. adding more air fixed it for sopher so it would further suggest this. and i am guessing that the people on here with no vibration are either :

have the upgraded air filter green filter or maybe have muffler upgrades which would allow more air into the RT

or maybe a later mfg model

just a guess... :dontknow:

vibrations... not the good ones.

I've had vibration problems for most of the 4000 miles I have on the RT. Mine are of two types. One is a typical vibration associated with belt slap. My belt may be over tightened, but it also is in contact with the inner flange of the rear sprocket. I also have an occasional hard knocking type vibration which may be an engine stabilizer bar. I'm also starting to get what seems to be an increase in engine/gearbox whine. And to add to this, my airbag/fitting fix (ha, ha) on Tuesday didn't resolve the leakage problem. Dealer says that maybe it's the hose. Cwazy!

As soon as I recuperate from the SITS trip, I'm going to strip the RT down to bare bones and have a good look at what's going on under all of that tupperware. I hope I don't find anything that scares the pants of me. :gaah:
