Very New Novice Spyder RT Limited Rider

Great choice, Pam . . . I have a 2013 RT Limited, too, and I love it. Its been many years since I rode a two wheeler, and I thought my riding days were over. My wife told me to go ahead and get the Spyder for my 65th birthday, and I am loving it more, every mile I ride. Be safe but have fun!

I see that you retired from the USAF; I retired from the Army in 2000 and the federal govt this past December and loving every minute.

Your bike looks really nice Bob. The only thing that I want to do to my bike is to add an LED flag light. Saw one on a bike when I went up to the shop and it was really cool. Will definitely have to save up my nickels and dimes to buy goodies.

We call the goodies "farkles" and you will need some $ to farkle your ryde. Like Bob D. said, you need to come to Spyderfest next spring in southern Missouri. There will be lots of vendors there and you'll be amazed at the farkling possibilities.

I don't have much money to spend on my RTS, but I love shopping for other folks. You'll get plenty of opinions here about what to buy. And check out the Spyderlovers vendors for lots of ideas.

Don't feel too bad, my dealer had to deliver my first Spyder also. Just keep practicing you will feel more comfortable over time. I've been riding now three years, 30,000 mile and still practice ever chance I get. I practiced 140 miles Saturday and another 100 miles today.

Pam, congrats on your purchase. Just like everything else practice, practice. Was a little nervous on my first ride back in October, 2012. But after relaxing behind the controls it really got easier. Just returned from my longest trip, went to Minnesota from Cincinnati, oh. Just a great ride. I'm no spring chicken, 59. So keep after it.

The Central Ohio area has a very active Spyder Ryder Club

With group rydes scheduled almost every weekend thru various parts of the states and some are even to neighboring states as well. I'd definitely suggest checking out and joining their website as well, and you'll find other locals in your area to meet up with and get tips from. Most Spyder Ryders are pretty friendly ppl and most like sharing their passion of ryding with other/newer members as well.

Teddy & I live in the Cincinnati/NKY area ourselves and are only a couple of hours from you, so let us know if you'd like and we could meet up for a few hours maybe on a weekend and give you a few friendly tips or at least some more practice with other Spyder Ryders
And fear not, back in 2010, Teddy & I were in your very same boots, never had ridden a 2 wheeler in our lives, and bought our 1st Spyder before we even had our MC License and look at us now, 3 years later and over 50,000 miles of smiles and loving it :2thumbs:

I am 60 and own a 2012RT. I rode her home the first day 90 miles smiling the whole way. I now have 3000 miles after 12 months.

I already have my endorsement and a very bad 2 wheel experience kept me from trying to ride 2 wheels again.

Each person learns at their own speed, but I decided to take the bull by the horns and learn about the CanAm. I rode every day and pushed both myself and the CanAm.

That being said, take your time and try not to get too frustrated if you should feel you arent' moving forward as fast as others who own one. For me I took to it like a duck to water, however, my hubby on the other hand is not comfortable at all. He rides a HD and it feels very awkward to him!

Now I am in the process of learning my regular maintanence and how to remove the housing piece by piece.

My biggest hero on this sight, though we have never spoken, is Murphy Brown. She is one tough cookie!

Congratulations on your decision and enjoy! In a few months I am positive you will ride like a pro.

Hello fellow Ohioan! Gotta love the buckeye state! My advice to a new Spyder rider is ride ride ride......the more time you ride the comfortable you will feel. That being said, I will admit everytime I saddle up I get a little nervious. I told my wife when that feeling goes away I will be scared. Silly I know but I feel a little bit of fear keeps me in check. I am 41 years of age and own a 2009 GS and a 2013 RT - Limited and I love them both but GREAT choice on your RT. There are a few of us just up the road from you in Moorefield township near Springfield that all ride the RT's. I'm betting you purchased your Sypder from Ask Power Sports? Great place and great people! I would recomend you also check out Middletown Cycle South of Dayton too. They are also a great bunch of people. Arron the shop manager really likes us Spyder rders and stocks alot of BRP items for bike and person. Another resource is ohiospydersiders.org AS far an Led flag check out Reggy at TricLeds on the Spyder lovers main page. Let me know if you need any help putting it on I done three and counting.

Another Ohio Spyder Welcome Aboard

Last October I was pretty much in the same boat, 68, retired, never ridden a MC and wanted a Spyder. Went up to Honda in Troy took and passed the MSF course and a week later picked up my RT-S at ASK wanted Viper Red and Middletown didn't have one. Made the trip to DC over Memorial Day for Rolling Thunder. In April wife bought a Ural side car rig and we try to go riding at least every other day if not every day. Biggest thing I had to do was learn to relax my GRIP on the handle bars more to a grip. Hang in there it gets easier as the mile accumulate.

Welcome, Pam (and Rich). My wife just passed her trike exam last September and we picked her up an RT in October. She was not able to get out really until Spring time and had been very apprehensive. We did weekends in empty school parking lots, progressing to riding two-up with me on back to talk her through things. We spent a lot of two-up time and this weekend I said, 'you really need to just ride it alone...you have been ready for some time.'

She followed me on my motorcycle and we communicated through our Scala communicators. She did great. She was tense at first and actually wanted to 'just get home' at our halfway point. As we got closer to home however she was now very comfortable and taking the twisties at a noticibly higher speed. As we rounded home she said that she wanted to stay out....she was now comfortable and having too much fun.

So, be patient, keep at it and keep learning. It may take some time but with the right attitude (and it sounds like you have that) you will get comfortable. It is is a knowledgeable and helpful community here too so folks always seem happy to offer insight and encouragement.

Welcome from another Ohio spyder rider.I am sixty four and own a 2012 limited.Rode two wheels all my life but can no longer handle our big Yamaha Venture so we bought a spyder. Its a whole new adventure for us but we love it and it keeps us riding.Gets better the more we ride and the smile keeps getting bigger as well.I know it was the right choice for us. Just keep riding and take your time and it will just get better and better.Life goes by fast but your ride doesen't have too!

yes I did purchase my bike from Ask Power Sports. They seemed to be good folks there as they were family members literally.
