• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Yes and no, it started after I installed the grip but I started the bike many times after I installed the grips. The grips are just a cover really and has nothing to do with any electric components.
 
I remeber reading about the full throttle thing before but never had need to use it and forgot all about it so I did learn something. :2thumbs:
Sorry, I wrongly assumed you were familiar with this trick, and had tried it already. Shame on me! My 2010 hated hot restarts, and I had to resort to this often, after the fuel in the intake saturated the cylinders. My experience has been that if an initial attempt to start the Spyder is not successful, then try cracking the throttle to start. If that does not work, open the throttle fully to shut off fuel and spark, and clear the cylinders, then try again. I had best luck with a cracked throttle start after cranking through with the throttle opened. Sometimes a normal closed throttle start afterwards would saturate the cylinders again, and require at least one repeat, such as you experienced.

I have never needed to do this so even though I remember reading about it I didn't think to try it. I do remember you and Evan fouling plugs before and if I had your number I would have called you to get some advice on getting to that front plug. :gaah:
 
I wish I had an idea, but it seems to make little sense. Only thing I can figure is either the injection is adding excess fuel for some reason, or more likely the throttle plate is not actuating due to an electrical or component problem. I suppose it could also be a disconnected MAP sensor or throttle position sensor. Are you sure you did not knock off or disconnect a wire when wrestling with the airbox?

I agree as to the insanity of getting the airbox off completely. I changed the front plug a half dozen times, and all I could manage to do was loosen the top section, remove the screws holding the bottom, then make a space wide enough to sneak in a socket on a pair of extensions with a universal in the middle. It certainly isn't like swapping out a set of plugs on your old Triumph!

Should this be noted as an engineering change request to BRP to change the design of the air box to make the plug more accessible? (Lamont?)
This would benefit both the tech and the DIYer.
 
I just read up on the drowned mode. It kills both fuel and ignition at WOT, so I guess it wouldn't fire at all until you close the throttle a bit. :dontknow:
Oh, this is from the RS manual so I'm not sure if it works the same for the RT.
Another great idea from BRP, that way it kinda copies the procedures used on a engine using a carburetor when it's flooded.

Exactly. I mentioned only because you indicated that you had to "wrestle" to get the grips on. I thought perhaps in so doing, you may have put your RT in a "drown mode". However, if you started it several times after installing the grips, then the installation surely would not have caused the "drown mode".

Super easy install. I can honestly say it has been the only thing that wasn't a fight other than the chrome wind deflectors.
 
the last time that I worked on a vehicle that wouldnt start that had spark and fuel there was diesel fuel in the tank .very hard to find this because fuel still smells like gasoline.spilled a bit on cement floor and it doesnt evaporate as fast as gasoline:(
