Venting about our Spyder

Michael,

I hope we can still get together and go on rydes together. (I know spyders ryde in the back or is that the front) I am so confused :opps:
As long as everyone maintains a safe distance between themselves and the person in front of them, it really doesn't matter who rides where!!! :bdh: Just maintain your distance and ride safe.:lecturef_smilie::yes: And we will certainly be riding with you and Darrell in the future! You two are true friends, indeed!!! :2thumbs:

Hey, Guys!

I'm so happy for you that you've finally gotten your Spyder to a dealership with a service department that seems to care. Hopefully, this will be the last fix necessary.:pray::pray::pray::pray:

On my part, however, I've decided to cut my losses and throw in the towel. :dontknow: Day after tomorrow, I, too, will be riding up to Pro Caliber in Longview with my RT-S and RT-622 trailer - not be be serviced, but to actually trade them in on another vehicle that will be a little - no, A LOT - more reliable.....a 2011 Suzuki M109R LE.

Spydergirl and others know only too well how lucky I was to have a functional, running Spyder to get me back home from Street Vibrations (lack of throttle, parking brake failure, etc). In the fourteen months I've owned my RT-S, it has made more trips to the shop than every other vehicle I've ever owned over the past 45 years COMBINED. :yikes: Three trips to the shop during the months of August and September was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. :gaah::cus::gaah: As you know, I put a fair number of miles on my ride (over 23,000 in less than 14 months) and I must have a ride I can depend upon - and my particular RT-S was not that machine! God bless Spyders! I love them and this breaks my heart. If I ever need to get a "Spyder fix" I can always take Kathy's RT for a spin!:yes:

SB FYI a 109R is not a bike you put the miles you do on. Been there done that the 1st year they came out loved the bike but had clutch cable break x 3 in less than 3000 miles but the real reason I moved it was a strange deal it had in a hard right at less than 30 the back wheel would stay powered with the clutch held in O Suz has never been the best on warranty and after 5 shop trips and no fix the thing did it a mile from a yami dealer and wasted another the 4 cable traded it for a RSTD and never looked back. hopefully they have fixed the problems

for you with you sypder issues there is hop as many of us has been lucky and no problems and a bud with a new PE that I know was prossed hung with the dealer and is now a great ride. Dealers make or break these bikes any bike in fact good luck to you both

Having done extensive research prior to committing, I think that your 109R was somewhat similar to my RT-S - a fairly unique problem child....indicative of our particular vehicle, not the species as a whole. (The key word in your post was "1st year they came out".) My RT-S was a 2010 - 1st year that model came out. Do I see a pattern here? I've talked with numerous service managers and have researched a couple of 109 forums and the current 109's are virtually trouble-free. I couldn't get one service manager to tell me of a single cronic issue inherent in the M109R line. I guess we both live and learn. I'll never again purchase a vehicle during its first year of production. Take care, my friend! Ryde safe!

The clutch cable issue has been addressed and fixed. Have to route it on the outside of the motor mounts. You also have to keep enough play in the cable. Under acceleration the TQ on the engine pull, makes the cable tighter. If you don't do this the cable will break prematurely. I replaced the first one at 10K, I have had my current one on for 22K and doesn't have one strand broken on either end of the cable. I have 32K currently. The motor can easily last well into the 100K range as long as it is maintained properly. Good luck with the 9.

Sly;

PC has already contacted me about your 622 - I may buy it from them… I'm negotiating for a slightly used V-rod to convert to a trike this winter. I found a company in HK that makes a starter/reverse for it (AKA K1200LT), that I'm going to try, if I can put this deal together..

Hey Spydercouple. I've been taking my new 2011 RT Se5 to Longview Pro Caliber. Bought mine in Bend, but that's too long a haul from Tillamook. I drove up to PC Longview one day with wife in tow and just wandered around, getting sense of the place. Talked to Parts, Sales and shop folks. Got a good vibe so that's where I take my ride. They did my 600 service and the Parking Brake spring as well. Also checked the throttle body TSB and some other assorted items as well. I saw your Spyder, the blue one, when I took mine in for similar issues. Check engine light, limp mode that comes and goes, DPS code. I didn't find any codes when I checked, but they found 4. Tech said he'd never seen the combination before. Also, mine goes into and out of Limp Mode - He says that's not supposed to happen. Once it's in - it's supposed to stay there till they fix it.They've had the bike for 5 days and are in contact with BRP to make sure they sort this out and it stays "fixed". This stuff only happens to me riding 2up - what's up with that. Anyway, Ben has been keeping me posted and at this point I have some confidence they are serious about getting it right. Time will tell.

Tell them to check the passenger pressure sensor… I didn't clip mine in correctly, when I replaced the seat, and I had issues until I re-seated the plug..

95% of our issues happend when ryding 2 up.
I made a note to take to the tech at PC tomorrow on checking the pressure senor.

Thank you for the thought

Carlos at BRP called me this morning to ask if I had any questions or concerns about my spyder and he was very nice and friendly. I expressed my concern over the passenger not being able to hear the CB and he said he would look into it and get it taken care of along with the other issues.

Got a call from Ben at Pro caliber and they just got off the phone with BRP and they have to replace spark plugs and wires and then they will take out for another ride and make sure everything is working properly. They also got the CB fixed for the passenger. (I had asked SK 3 times to fix) They also did the update on the brake spring that SK said they did and really didn't do it. Shame on SK for lying to the customer. I have the paper that says SK did the update for the brake spring.
Pro caliber longview is my place to take my spyder for anything it needs.
Parts have been ordered and we should get our bike back early next week. I am so thrilled.

Thank you Carlos and Ben, You 2 are awesome. Can't wait to get my spyder back and go for a ryde.

Is Longview in Oregon? or Washington?

We are happy with Pro Calibereds service

Got out spyder back a week ago and we are very happy with it.

They still have to replace the spark plugs but they are back ordered with no release date.

Pro Caliber was great. Instead of leaving the spyder in the shop and waiting for however long it takes to get spark plugs we asked for it back and we would be bring it back in when

the spark plugs came in. We have over 6900 miles on it.

We have been out riding almost every day.

"We love our spyder" :D
