• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

valve check

ok i know this has been discussed before but i wanted some new input. i am fast approaching 10,000 miles and have yet to have the valves checked. she is just running so darn good , except for the two times my check engine light came on...and that was in pretty high altitudes. all i had to do was turn it off, take out the key for 20 seconds and start it back up. the light did not come back one. who has had the first valve check, what did it cost and what should i ask the dealer to check while i'm there?? those of you from nc or tn who did you have do this? i'm still debating who i will get to service my baby! i loved swampfox motorsports in virginia, they were the closet dealer to me at the time but i don't want to drive 3 hours if there is a better dealer closer. sam i know you like taylorsville. did they do your valve check?

I think my dealer charged just about $250 for the valve check , belt tension check, etc. (all other 6,00 mile checks). I change my own oil. I had to leave the bike overnight as they wanted it dead cold for the disassembly of the engine to check the shims. Mine turned out to be OK as are most that are having the valves checked. See if they will do the brake squeel service for you if you are having an issue with it. Also the parking brake fix.

Yup, I had closer to 9,000 on mine too when I got my 6,000 mile check done. The valves didn't need a thing. I know they checked them because I was up there while they had my spyder all tore apart. They also did all the other checks listed in the owners manual and the warranty work on my brake pads and emergency brake. As bjt mentioned, it ran about $250.00 I posted everything in a thread earlier, I will see if I can find it. I found it, check out this thread http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6721&highlight=valve+check I list everything they did and the break down of costs.

Don't know about local labor rates. When the time comes check your owners manaul for what is done at the 12,000 mile check. Do everthing you feel comfortable with yourself. Set up an appointment with a dealer for the rest. Strip all the panels you can, and any mods that will be in the way of the required service and take your baby in. That is your cheapest option. Good Luck with finding a good dealer closer than 3 hours. The two nearest dealers for my BMW are both 3 to 4 hours away, dpending on traffic, so I feel your pain. It was nice to meet you at Lamont's BBQ. Ryde Safe and Enjoy:thumbup:

Just received the phone call on my 6,000 mile service, done at 7,400. $739.00 - left the spyder on Saturday and it was not completed until today. First one done by dealer. Will list everything on the inspection report tomorrow since I won't being picking the spyder up until 19:00 tonight.

I bought my Spyder from East Bay Motorsports and chose to buy the two years extra maintainance package that covers me for two years for the service. It has paid for itself already. I did my 6,250 mile service which includes the valve check and the bill came out to be $700 but I didn't have to pay a dime.

Anyone who lives in CA, I suggest you check them out. They're in Hayward, CA but know that they opperate many other motorcycle dealerships in CA. Additionally, they will reimburse you for a Can Am Rental if you are serious about buying one.

I checked with my dealer and the Tech guy told me has had only one Spyder that has had the Valves checked twice and no adjustments were needed yet but he did say it is about a 3 hour job to just check them. Check ir out but you know they would not warranty anyones bike that wasn't in for the check. I know some of you can check them yourself but warranty can be an issue. Service is the dealers bread & butter.
