• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Valve Check

For those that have had the 12000/14000 mile valve clearance check done, what were the results? Was the clearance out of spec? Did the dealer give you actual results or did they just say they were checked and adjusted with no backup documentation?

don't waste your money

unless your dealer/mechanic absolutely insists on doing this work and claims that it will cancel your warranty if not done ! I would tell them not to do it and save yourself some money my mechanic who is platinum certified no longer includes the valve clearance check for the 14,000 mile service. that is one of the reasons i really like this dealership is that they are not in the business to do unnecessary service and they pass the savings on to their customers that is why I have bought 2 spyders from them and continue to be impressed with there customer service.

choices, choices..!!

from what I have seen the valve adjustments at 12/14,000 even more have shown that they are not needed at those intervals. Good techs can listen to them and tell if they need checking. Shim under buckets are pretty solid and don't need as much adjusting as prior systems. (nut and screw, shims). Would have been nice if they had made them hydraulic but they didn't...still your choice as to when...:dontknow:

Pretty much everyone who's done the 14,000 mile valve check has reported no adjustments necessary.

This is pretty much what I expected. From my Goldwing days, Honda scheduled the first valve check at 32000 miles. History showed that the 96000 mile check was generally the first time that it was even worth looking at. Even then, it was not unusual for no adjustment to be necessary. Many new cars have used this system for several years now and often don't suggest the need for checking until well past 100000 miles. I am sure that most cars using this system never get checked and don't seem to suffer any damage as a result.

Thanks for the input.

12,000 miles on my 2008. Needed no adjustment.

waited until 28,000 miles on my 2010. Needed no adjustment

Future valve checks? probably not if I still have my pre-2014 RT's.

None needed on the 2014's.

Dropped a valve at 13,400mi

Dealer did a valve check, and yep, it was gone! :yikes: nojoke

Good news is that it'll be home tomorrow with a newly rebuilt engine!

Can't wait to get in some early Fall riding.

So how serious are you about shopping for one?? ;)

I did. I have discussed trade in. They will be here in March or so. The beta testers will have run a few miles. It looks like I have two courses to teach for Spring semester. It's looking good unless the world comes to an end or something like that.

Valve check

Mine was checked at 14000 miles, no adjustment necessary. I still had to pay $$$ for the labor! :(

I won't do that again...

VALVE ADJUST

At 35k the rear exhaust valve needed shimming.

Well Joy, that's probably because you ride it like you STOLE IT :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:...................Mike .................................:agree:

I'm on Whidbey Island and would be very interested in the name and address of your dealer in woodenville.
Thanks in advance

I did the valve check on my first :spyder2: (2008) at 12,000 miles. No adjustments needed. $800 down the toilet.

The valve check was performed on my 2010 at 28,000 miles. No adjustments needed. Another $800 down the toilet.

Future valve checks on pre 2014's--I don't think so--unless the :spyder2: has performance issues.

I am glad to see this has been done away with on the 2014 RT's.
