• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Vacuum line missing?

On the right side of the engine, under the airbox, there is a part that the parts fiche calls a solenoid, but does not say what it is for. A hose runs up to it from the bottom of the crankcase and from it to the throttle body, and out the side is a nipple that looks like a vacuum hose should slip onto it.

Anybody else see this on thier engine? Am I missing a vacuum line?

I will attach pictures:

On the parts fiche it would be #12 and shows no hose coming off of the front where the little nipple faces you.

In the picture it is the nipple above the electrical connection facing right. (just above where it says 12v)

Pretty sure that's your purge solenoid and that's ok the way it is. Is there another hose connected to it which leads to the canister? That nipple takes in fresh air when the valve opens.
EDIT: It could also have something to do with the vacuum assisted clutch......I haven't looked in there for a while but I'm pretty sure mine has a nipple like that also.

I'm pretty sure if your missing a vacuum hose you'll know right away.
It won't run right with an open vacuum line.

Just went and took another look. The canister is on the right side also but near the rear cylinder. This is on the right side, but by the front cylinder. The open nipple is almost in line with the top of the radiator.

You have an SM5 and that is the valve for the clutch vacuum assist. Or so I've been told.
It is open to atmosphere properly.

Got that from the service manual....your first pic also shows that in the clutch section.

Thanks, found it in the manual. I never would have thought to look under the clutch section. The pic I posted was from "engine 2" in a dealers online parts fiche.
