Using the Krikit ll and about that belt tensioner...

I searched the forum and couldn't find an answer...

1. When using the Krikit ll on the belt will it be accurate if there is an installed belt tensioner?

2. Does the roller on LaMonster's Upgrade Belt Tensioner need to be lubricated? Or is it a sealed unit?

I'm learning a lot asking questions and getting answers from you experienced Spyder Ryders. Thanks.

The gauge is pretty accurate .... if used correctly !!!! .... I think a tensioner is going to cause an issue .... PM Ron of BajaRon for the best info ..... Mike

There really isn't much tension on the belt tensioner. Didn't make a difference in reading for me on or off belt. Lamonsters belt tensioner roller is sealed. No lubeing needed.

I did PM Ron - and heard from WOODADDICT and JP58 as well. This all helps. Learning... learning...

Just logged in for the day. PM's are not the quickest way to get a hold of me.

What you have is a belt vibration dampener. Not a tensioner. Not a big deal. But calling them 'Tensiononers' confuses the debate. On your car's serpentine belt you have a true tensioner. Have you ever tried to release one of these? You need a long breaker bar! Because they apply a huge amount of pressure to that belt. Simply put, tensioner and dampener are not the same thing.

So, a belt vibration dampener will not make a significant difference in overall belt tension. It does not need to be taken into consideration for your belt tension reading. The Krikit, if used properly, will be very accurate. An accuracy level far beyond anything needed for our Spyder belt tension setting.

I do not know of a vibration dampener that needs, or can be, lubricated. Lamontser's unit definitely falls into this category.

I hope this helps!

But with the dampener you should make it a habit to check the wheel to make sure the bearing is not getting dry or loose and wearing out!!! You don't want to shred you drive belt because of a failed bearing!!

True. A failed dampener can destroy your drive belt in short order.

Thanks Ron - VERY helpful. I appreciate the clarification between a tensioner and a dampener. You have answered with just what I needed to know. Thanks again.
