• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Using a non-BRP GPS Part 1

WasWinger... That exactly how I plan to mount my 775T! Same as Stevedfive on the left side of the dash :)

Good write up!

After a short ride the other day I discovered my white wind breaker, over my riding jacket, was reflecting off the GPS screen, washing it out. So I moved it to a location similar to where I had it on my Goldwing. I now have an unused BRP GPS mount!

Here's how I mounted it on the dash. The Ram ball mount fits nicely over the gauge hole. I don't have nor intend to have, the gauges. I used a piece of hardware T brace to fashion a somewhat Y piece with three threaded holes for M5 x 25 screws. The screws line up nicely with the notches in the gauge hole. The only downside is it's a bit of a challenge to tighten the knob on the Ram arm, and because of rotational limits of the balls and arms the GPS (actually a tablet) is tilted a bit. I would prefer it to be vertical so the cover provides maximum protection from rain. I pulled the cradle away from the dash for the second pic.

I like the RAM mount in place of the gauges. That's the most sensible thing I have seen done with that space. Good thinking!

Nice writeup... I'm in process of doing a few mods to my 2014 RTS. I'm new to spyder - so not sure where to find the connector that I plug the GPS harness #710002182 into? I have the CB installed and the entertainment harness installed. Thanks for your help.

That harness is already part of the factory wiring harness on the 2014 RT. There should be an audio connector and a power connector under the seat, behind the plastic, and somewhere around the rear right corner of the gas tank.

Maybe finless or someone else will pop in here and say for sure. My RT is a 2013 so I had to add the GPS harness.

Here is a pick of the power plug on the 2014 RT he is talking about. Sorry about the pics being sideways. It's a two wire Delphi connecter. The first pic is the connector I bought at a local auto parts store. The other two are of the power/ground connecter behind the right side gas tank. The last shows the 3.5 plug that is used for the GPS to radio connection. Also, it is keyed powered.

In this post with video I show where the GPS main connector is.
It is under the right hand passenger grip and you do have to remove the side panels to get at it.
This is IF you did not get the GPS harness installed by your dealer.
Pretty sure the Limited's come with it so it will look and be where Stevedfive is showing. Otherwise it will be where I show in my video.

2013 and earlier need a GPS harness and Limiteds come with it because they come with the GPS. 2014 and later, with radio of course, do not need GPS harness at all. The 12v and audio connectors are already there.

Good to know!
So BRP added some things in 2014 to the base Spyder RT and left other things off.... Strange.
