• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

USER NAMES/HANDLES - What does yours mean? Where did it come from?

Just curious,
Mine (Mexican),, even tho i am a US citizen, i was born and raised in Mexico and proud of my roots (to a certain point), wanted to see how difficult it would be to be accepted in a forum like this with a username like mine without people knowing my legal status, i was very happy to see that i was accepted as part of the club from day one, thanks guys and girls:clap:

Mine is stupid... Around 20 years ago or so, hubby and I were still in the newly married stage, we started arguing as newly marrieds can and we started calling eachother dumb, and I mean dumb names, and out came fern face and he called me moss lips and we burst out laughing at the thought of someone with lips of moss and we stopped and grew up a bit and down a bit on that day. Mosslips has stuck with me these 20 years and always makes us laugh. It ended up being my 1st email addy, because everything it seemed was taken and when I punched in that name saying I bet it will be taken too, it wasnt... of course it wasnt... and so, I am mosslips and probably will be for the rest of my life.

See I told you it was stupid and long winded! :roflblack:

I work at the University of Connecticut, home of the Huskies. My buddy and I used to play in a duo called the TOPDOGS, we had emails topdogjim and topdogjohn etc. The first forum I was in I was topdogjim and everyone since. One day my buddy said, I am going to ask "The Dog" if he wants to ride Sat and everyone called me that ever since. That is where the vanity plate comes in.

My Son was in the Air Force. He was killed in Iraq on September 15,2010. When I talked to his friend I used Hansensmom. I also have another son so Hansensmomx2. Also my PGR name.

Regarding the " Blue Knight" part I am an ex-cop and this references the police motorcycle affectionadoes. The "911" needs no explanation!

This ended up to be a fun thread, let's see if anymore SpyderLovers will tune in!!

How did you obtain or come up with your user name?

One day shortly after I bought my yellow/black spyder, we went out ryding, and a boy pointed at me and said "Look that's BumbleBee".

It then stuck with me.

The name reflects the BumbleBee character in the Transformers Movie.

In my "former life", I was a U.S. Army UH-1H flight engineer or "crew chief". I served with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) out of Ft. Campbell, KY supporting Task Force 3/327th in the Sinai. We were the U.S. contingent serving alongside many nations in the MFO - Multinational Force and Observers, a.k.a. "Sinai Peacekeepers". Our aviation unit provided support and reconnaissance to the infantry units sent there.

"Peacekeeper6" was the call sign of our commanding officer who flew my Huey (a '72 model that served in the 'Nam) many times. He was one of those commanders who got respect without really asking for it; his chest full of awards and medals, coupled with being an aviator and a former member of the Special Forces in Vietnam, got noticed. His leadership style was the right blend of authority and compassion. All of his subordinates enjoyed serving under his command.

And being 40-something and in GREAT shape (at the time), he could outrun A LOT of 18-year old "punks".

Anyway, I've always admired him and never forgot his cool call sign.

So how'd you end up with your username ??

Well, since others are still replying to this 11-year-old thread, maybe I'm not too late to join in....
I'm often asked 'why?' I would ever pick such an "ugly" or unattractive name as "bushrat". Turned out, I was not exactly alone in my choice, as I had to become bushrat22 before I could get it for my email.
As to the 'why?'... I was living off the beaten path, in the woods of Haliburton, Ontario cottage country some years back. Had a neighbour a few miles away; both of us living like hermits and somewhat remote from civilization. He suggested we should have appropriate names for Internet/email traffic. Being a bit of a curmudgeon, he called himself "bushbugger". I decided to follow suit as the 'bushrat", hoping that not too many of the forest creatures living around me would take offense. Simple explanation really. My Spyder's name is even more obvious: "red fun" - describing its colour and its character.

Last time I posted, I was in a different state and had a different screen name.

In Alaska, I was akspyderman.

In Arkansas, I am ARtraveler.

I am guessing you don't need an explanation for either one. :roflblack:

About 25 years, I was assigned to court duty for my county as a state trooper. I needed some criminal complaints signed, and a circuit court judge saw me and said "Hey troop, let me read those papers". That started a strong 20 year friendship both professionally, and personally, as he was also a m/c rider. Sadly, he was killed about 5 years ago on his motorcycle when a car turned left in front of him. The name not only stuck, but it is now all my forums user name.

As. A superintendent that for over 20 years with a record for get a project done on schedule and on budget I was known for being fair but not Easy therefore the tongue-in-cheek Handel. Now retired but kept the handle.

Cool, never seen this posting page. Woodaddict???? I like everything wood, making furniture, remodeling, building things at the house, even now building brand new house, doing ALOT of work on it with a real contractor. In final stages now. Neat to see members reasons. need to spend more time reading on the older dated ones

Good Post. Wmoater. My nickname all through highschool was "moater." My last name is Moats and I loved riding and ripping anything that had a motor on it apart. So as a "motor head" my nickname was created "Moater". Anyone who remembers me from high school still calls me moater till today. Everyone now calls me Billy. "W" stands for William or Will. I "Will Moater" forever! So Wmoater was born. I use it on all my login and emails.

I started using "triplethreat" when I joined a Yamaha FZ09 forum back in 2013. As you may or may not know, the FZ09 motorcycle engine is a triple cylinder with gobs of torque. Anyway, when I decided to join here a few months ago, right before I bought my Spyder, I thought it would be appropriate here also as the 1330 is also a triple cylinder engine. Ta-da....triplethreat.

I couldn't use some of the nicknames my dad called me cus I'm sure someone would be offended. Anyway mine is from my Dad's real name that was given to him at birth. He was adopted later and his parents changed his name. But I honor my Dad's real name.

My nick name is Tony and my wife's name is Theresa and we live in New Jersey . Hence the name tntnj .
By the way , a great old post.

Nice to see this thread back, but I am kind of curious about the folks who came (and went) between 2011 and yesterday when this thread was resurrected.

I wasn't trying to be cutesy by using a "y" instead of the "i" in ride, as my user name predates the Spyder itself by a few years. I joined a Goldwing forum based in Ireland, and as I live in the Ozarks and I ride motorcycles, I picked Ozarkrider for screen name. Somehow the name and password became inaccessible in the forum confuser, but it was still recognized as a valid name so I couldn't log in. Changed to Ozarkryder, and it was just a quirky spelling until we actually got a Spyder. So to some folks I end up explaining that the term spyder in the motor vehicle world is origanally a small 2 seat sports car (Porche 911 Spyder, Audi R-8 Spyder) and you drive, not dryve them, so I don't ryde, I ride our Spyder.

Pegasus1300: Pegasus the flying horse, motorcycles always seemed like a horse that could fly to me. 1300: Yamaha Venture V4 was a 1300cc motor and I rode those from 1986 till my accident in 2011 put me on 3 Wheels.
